That is a shame. Seconded someone's else's observation of the lack of empathy.

Hopefully the editors will know enough to attribute higher weight to the words of a member of a minority to balance it with the much larger demographic of the general public who have the resources to bring greater numbers but reduced understanding.

This is absolutely sick, :x :x cause, Autism in any manner should not be used as some excuse to commit murder of a helpless individual.. In many ways, I understand that having an autistic child creates a huge strain on parents in vast ways but, if you think about raising normal children is just as stressful.Still, There is no such rationale behind murder just cause of the overall stresses and strains that tend to go along with raising an autistic person..I could say more on this but, it would invite vulgarity therefore, I'll close by saying Autism is no excuse only a different way of seeing the world whereby, no one should blame autism for defects or faults in an individual throughout their entire life.

So 'maddening' behaviour or being considered burdensome is justification for being murdered by one's own parents now?

If they applied the same logic to any other disability, I'm sure there would be uproar.

I sent an angry email to the author, and she sent one back that denied she implied it was okay to murder people like us.

Yeah. Okay.

The Denver Post turned an article about a thirteen-year-old boy with AS murdered in his sleep by his father into an article blaming autistic children for their parents suffering and their own abuse. The language of the article is just awful: "Jacob became another statistic in a sad, pressure-cooker reality for families with autistic children"; "Autism is a maddening disorder of scrambled brain development that can lead some parents to snap"; "Dads may not understand that the problem is not caused by the mom being too easy on the child."

This made me physically ill reading this. Why is this father getting so much sympathy? He murdered his child. I have no sympathy for him.

It sounds like a news article from 1908, lamenting a negro child for provoking whites to lynch it.

Open you eyes!

Hey everyone! I've got an update on this case. Allen Grabe has just been found guilty of first degree murder and child abuse resulting in death. He is facing a mandatory life sentence without parole.

I'm hoping that this is an indication that people are finally starting to understand that murdering individuals with disabilities is every bit as wrong as murdering "normal" people.

Remind me next time I visit my family in Denver to drop by their office and throw a rock through the window.

EDIT: I didn't notice this thread was necro'ed. Hopefully the Denver Post has learned from their mistake by now, but rest assured I will be keeping my eye on them now.

Personally, I think anyone who has the sheer idiocy to use autism as an excuse for murder should be put on death row immediately. Course it's too bad they let some of the less humane methods of execution die out. Some people really do deserved to be burned at the stake.

truth be told i hate the news a lot cause it seem every time a parent murder any child with a special need they justify the killing of a child. i hate that. long time ago when i was younger i forgot where i heard this at but a mother had killed her young child the child had severe mental retardation ( not autism) in the paper i was reading it form basically said oh the child was hard to manage, i think that is so sick.
