Those people are being sick and cruel! Just because we have brains that are wired differently doesn't make us any less human! Would go up to a person born with no arms and say they aren't human? A person born without a brain? A person born as a conjoined twin? How about this one, a normal person? NO! Just straight no across the boards. I don't care if they buy the NASA Space Shuttle Assembly Line Building! It doesn't change anything. It's inhuman, the Holocaust all over again, and so forth! Are the ones trying to "cure" us becoming mini Hitlers?

I agree with you on this one 100%. Everybody who's conceived should be brought into this world. We are all God's Children and all children and babies are a gift from God. I think the ones who are trying to cure us are becoming mini Hitlers. They want everybody to be perfect people living in a perfect world. That's why perfectionism is one of my biggest pet peeves. I don't believe in the perfect race. I'm happy to be alive. I'm autistic, brown haired and brown-eyed and I'm happy to be alive. Look at what happened to all the Down Syndrome babies. The same thing could happen to us. Disabled people are good for the economy, and should be hired to work along side their non-disabled peers. We should hire special needs people instead of aborting them. I feel and think that it would help the economy out a great deal. If we were to put an end to all abortion and give everybody who's conceived a chance at life and a chance at a job once they reach adulthood, the economy would vastly improve and the world would be a much happier place to live. The world population as a whole needs to be taught to accept individual differences that crop up in both disabled and non-disabled persons, instead of killing their unborn young. It should be up to God who's to live and die and not up to the parents and doctors. Everybody has something to offer to the world, whether they have a disability or not, no matter what disability they have. Everybody is precious in the eyes of God and any form of murder is a sin. Abortion is murder. Thanks a lot, Hitler.

Ok, no offense to you or anyone else who posted after this post, but you all must have some serious training in the school of Conjuration to revive a thread that's been dead for over two years. Unfortunately necromancy is just as frowned upon here as it is in Tamriel. Please check dates before posting next time. Thank you.

Necromancy isn't frowned upon everywhere in Tamriel...just in Cyrodiil and most of Skyrim. Apparently people in Morrowind don't care too much.

I don't know if this idea has already been covered in this thread, but as horrifying as the idea of aborting a child with atypical neurology may be ...what seems more insidious to me is the encouragement for even high functioning Auties and Aspies to avoid reproducing, and be sterilized...it can even be done in the teens by the parents, as a 'treatment' that will prevent future 'problems' in their child's life.

Who/which organisation encourages our sterilisation and discourages us from reproducing? It sounds more like the sort of thing a crackpot like Foresam would say than a widely recognised concept.

google this..'sterilization of people with autism'

there really are people out there seriously discussing this issue. And here in CT, after Newtown, you would not believe the things I've heard coming from the mouths of people I thought had brains...The emotion was so high that I just kept my mouth shut.

It really is out there. I have experienced that personally, and I'm so "high-functioning" that I can hide it by keeping my mouth shut. Don't get me started on a system of assessment that rates someone's functioning, not by how well they do in their own life, but by their ability to look like everyone else on the outside. That belongs in the "Social Deficits of Neurotypicals" folder.

Back on track-- It has happened to me. People actually encouraged me to stop trying to live life, to give up my kids (despite the fact that even the therapists had to admit that they were thriving and that I was very good with them)-- all so I could swallow my Risperdal and sit on the couch like a zombie, being neither any good nor any trouble to anybody.

This was in 2010 and 2011-- long after it should have been well known that the media BS of the early 21st century was just exactly that-- attention-garnering, ratings-grabbing, ill-informed, reactionary BS.

The fact of my autism and the belief in those stereotypes were factors that were weighed in my decision to get sterilized-- and I regret that. Weighing those factors, I mean-- not getting sterilized. I was wrong in thinking that I could not care for the kids I have, let alone more-- but I'm still glad to be done. 35 is old to be having babies, and 4 kids is enough. But those things and the fact that hormonal contraception radically disagrees with me and condoms don't work for us any more should have been the ONLY reasons. "I'm BROKEN" should never have entered the picture...

...and the fact is that the idea of myself as broken is something that was introduced by the media back in the day and encouraged, ACTUALLY ENCOURAGED, by well-intentioned professionals trying to "help" me who were so saturated with this crap that they could not look through it to see the person in front of them.

Lord, protect me from people who want to "do well by doing good." Protect me, in general, from ignorant do-gooders who really just have my best interests at heart. PLEASE, LET ME BE.

hm. and just what traits would they presume to treat? all? which do they "choose?"

why not just eliminate the "humor" gene from the human species, or attempt to "treat" that in the womb.

it's true--we do have high rates of social anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress do, etc. but i have a strong feeling this has little to do with genetics.

@#$%

I agree with the above. During research for my thesis on schizophrenia I cam across a shocking chapter about 'mercy' killings in the early 20th century. All sorts of people; blind, deaf, homosexual, epelieptic, mentally handicapt and any other people different than the norm were killed.
Psychiatrists developed a theory that different and undesireable behaviour is genetic and therefor they used this theory to justify compulsory sterilization, which became later murder.
Around 1938 psychiatrists and doctors starved children with psychological or psysical abnormalities and later gassed them to death.
At the end of 1941 the gas chambers were dismantled and shipped to eastern europe and used to kill Jews.

Read more in Genetics, eugenics and mass murder- by John Read and Jeffrey Masson- Models of madness.

It's true. Rejection and harassment are the reasons we're anxious and depressed-- and living in a world that is, on one level or another, out to destroy you is a prime breeding ground for PTSD. Sometimes, life is the war.

Daddy was depressed because he was lonely. When he found a mate who could accept him, his depression eased. He did fear change to a pathological extent-- but he was only anxious when he was being mocked and harassed by family members bent on profiting from his planning and caution. He had no fear of his society, and was by and large a very happy person. I am affected in almost identical ways-- but having grown up fifteen miles away and in fear of my environment, I am a much more anxious person. I've had more trouble, less happiness, and less success-- and later in life, I find myself improving my existence by striving to emulate Daddy in as many ways as I can bring myself to do.

It's true about the eugenics, too. Hitler actually took his inspiration from the United States. No kidding. For a long time, the American people knew what Hitler was doing and looked the other way because he was killing Jews, Gypsies, "defectives," and other "undesirables."

In this country, it wasn't just people with disabilities. It was depressives, Native Americans, other cultural groups who were not of the western European ideal. Before Hitler horrified the world by going radical and drove it underground, it had even started to extend to include Appalachians and the poor in general.

They tried to build a eutopia by eliminating all that which was less than what a certain powerful group deemed perfect.

We have, by and large, forgotten that it happened.

They actually meant well.

And THAT is chilling.

Alrighty then, "Giant Baby", just what percentage of autism should be allowed?

Given the fact that you apparently judge everyone as a group, and execute them as well,

then it's an all or nothing across the board oven party.

That being said, why don't you show us where the line is, you go first, and we will follow.

Problem solved.

Sheesh all i'm saying is, when the science is there stop DS, Autistic and other children from being born, it should be used, why bring people into the world to suffer, i'm not saying anything like the final solution, i'm not saying round up and shoot them all, IN THE FUTURE when they can detect the anomalies, abort them and one day humanity won't have to worry about the risk of disabled children, the world will be better over all, i'mnot NT, I am AS, I have the right to say that.

Apologies in advance but all I keep hearing is "EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!"

Indeed, terminating an unborn simply because they may have problems with development can only be known as a selfish act on the part of society, whether you (Alraune144) have AS or not is irrelevant, no-one has the right to determine the basis for the quality of a life or why it should be allowed to exist or not, other than their own, period.

Quote:
IN THE FUTURE when they can detect the anomalies, abort them and one day humanity won't have to worry about the risk of disabled children

This has nothing to do with how someone who is born with a condition might live their lives or adapt, or maybe even "suffor", it has to do with (in your own words) humanity worrying about the risk of disabled children. The only reason humanity is worried about anything is because some of these disabled individuals will need special attention that society sees as a burden, plain and simple. The only reason this topic is even in question is because society doesn't want to have to "take care of" anyone but themselves. Selfish.

The fact is, science and society has absolutely no right to ask/enforce the idea of aborting simply due to a possible disability. Sugar coat it as being "humane" all you want, it's still wrong.

Albert Einstein said the following:

Quote:
"The whole of science is nothing more than a refinement of everyday thinking."

Quote:
"A person starts to live when he can live outside himself."

Well, the whole of society needs to start living.
Doomed is a society who stops the birth of a life due to their own prejudiced thinking and ways.
