Use this site if you want to know why the autistic community dislikes it. The official one wouldn't tell you that anyway.

"Autism speaks" seeks to classify all autistics into one category, making it believed to be a horrible epidemic and that every 1 in 150 children born will be a LOW FUCNTION autistic child.

The reality is Asperger's is the most common form of autism and we are far from incapable. There are no autistic employees working for Autism speaks. It's entirely NT's/

To me, this is really nothing more than a hate site, disguised by "conern" for autism

DSM-IV list five disorders under Pervasive Developmental Disorders or Autism Spectrum Disorders: Autism, Aspergers Syndrome, Rett Syndrome, Childhood Disntegrative Disorder, and PDD-NOS.

The most common form is PDD-NOS. I don't think we can any longer assume where people with Autism are working. I believe there is probably a small population of people( in positions of power and influence) who keep their Autism diagnosis confidential.

Evil hidden cabal, my tailfeathers. I'm part of a probably massive population of high-functioning people in a position of powerlessness and terror who keep my diagnosis confidential.

A housewife and caregiver is NOT wise to go around telling people she has a pervasive developmental disorder. Especially one that people associate with an inability to give a damn about others and/or violent, sociopathic behavior.

Evil hidden nothing. There is no HFA Bildeberger Club. If there were, whatever else we are, we wouldn't be stereotyped so nastily.

When I was talking about a cabal I was being sarcastic

There are some individuals here that have reported they have hidden their diagnosis from an employer, due to concern over potential discrimination from their employers.

History is full of incidences where people kept their physical and mental illnesses from the general public. Nixon, and Kennedy suffered from mental illness, but much of it was hidden from the public until after their terms expired.

The point in the previous post was that there are capable individuals with symptoms of Aspergers in society. Speculation during the Bush administration was intense that he might of had Aspergers or Dyslexia, some sources list Bush as likely having Aspergers.

It is likely not a common phenomenon, but it may indeed be the case in a small population of individuals. Of course, it can only be speculation, when the individuals keep their medical records confidential or in the cases where they avoid diagnosis, or have no clue that they might have an autism spectrum disorder.

You know that just sounds like a dirty rumour, saying George Bush was an aspie. There's nothing worse than baseless rumour

This reminds me of a piece from the Onion: http://hotair.com/archives/2009/08/17/v ... explained/

Biden has Asperger's!

I personally, don't have an opinion on whether or not Bush had Aspergers, just reporting the speculation, that can be found from many resources.

Point being, that beliefs that some people with power and influence in history may have had a form of autism are common, so it is not too unusual that an autistic person, would suggest that there is a small group of individuals in the population with power and influence with the condition that haven't disclosed it.

In an attempt to answer your original question on why an autistic person would say what was suggested, in the statement you orginally responded to.

First time I heard it. As it is, it's speculation, and a dirty little snipe it is too. It's just rumour-mongering, something you'd find on a playground
