Regrets - I am in UK and it is very late. It could be construed as rudeness leaving mid debate but it's 2:56 am here and I have to get up tomorrow and "fool them I am one of them".

Please accept my apology for the abrupt exit.

Maybe someone else will turn up, fight the militant corner and bring a further slice of chaos to your cozy little compliant forum.

And... Don't forget we have a very different sense of humour in UK. I just might have been making a point from a deliberately over dramatic joke in the first place. If that passed you by don't let anyone tell you missing irony and hyperbole is your condition. It's more probably because you are American. That really does make you different, though not necessarily in a bad way :-)

Ciao!

I had no idea the poll would be quite that big on screen nor that it would come above the post itself. :0 Not what I had intended at all. It was just blunt and horrible. I have taken the whole thing down.

You can take the remaining post as serious, half serious, a joke with a point or whatever.

...Are you not just a bit fed up with being told it is you who has "a problem"??

No, because I dont believe anyone has a "problem", things just are as they are. It may not be in my favour, but it is what it is.

I posted something quite deliberately controversial to trigger a discussion and it was meant to be semi ironic.

I appreciate that these conditions are a spectrum, that I am down the mild end and there is a big danger in being ironic or jokey on this board as "literality" thing can kick in for others.

All I can say is...

You guys argue your points for tolerance and repect very well and mostly without losing your temper. It's impressive.

I think I would even say you have won / beaten me to a standstill.

Which is good, as someone with better communications skills than me had indeed upset me recently and used allegations about my own potential condition in that argument (very good guess).

I will try to remember what you have said tommorow and take it in my stride / laugh it off.

Please don't take major or lasting offence.

I don't think it's the literality thing in play here; remember, on an online forum, all we have to go on is your words. Without any other posts from you to compare to this one, there is no reference point to look for any differences in tone or word choice.

Remember though, when you make a thread like this, although it was in the name of humor, that many people will simply read the original post and then reply rather than reading the thread all the way through and realizing it was not meant seriously. This could cause some people to come away with a negative impression of those on the spectrum.

It's sad that this could be mistaken for a serious thread, but I have seen threads with similar content posted as a serious proposition.

OK Then. Let's talk more seriously.

Part of that post is accurate. If I do have a condition, it has absolutely allowed me to reach the senior levels in my profession and get past a good 95% of other people in income etc. It's like running while they are walking. But then the downside comes in and every now and then I am not careful enough with in comms with other people and I come off very badly. That is like running and tripping. When I look at the 5% above me in business it is clear that a minority are possibly borderline AS directive personalities. They also get things done but mostly by upseting people. The remainder are actually great communicators. Real 'normal' people, if you will forgive me using the word, but more properly this time, who lie in the middle have neither of the exceptional skills available: Empathy/Focus BigPicture/DetailedUnderstanding.

Running and tripping makes me annoyed. It makes me annoyed that good communicators around me are in some way exploiting me and my ability to innovate and focus as they form the majority of the top strata. ...Anyone who works in technical occupation and has mild AS will tell you the same.

What do you think?

I guess one perspective I have, after writing this is that I should remember that none of the people around me are 'normal' in the true sense, and I am not dealing with the average Joe when I encounter those without my condition, but exceptionally gifted communicators.

Another issue is that I am seen as talented at work - because work is a highly formalised series of engagements. It's fairly easy to plan ahead, esp if you are borderline like myself and can work out most likely scanarios in advance. Coming home and relaxing is another story. I have a high liklihood of upsetting others almost every day because interractions are way more random. OK total honesty... If I did actually plan my interactions with my own family i think that would dehumanise me in some way.

So I was semi-serious in what I posted. Do I just go "Mad Professor / Evil Genius / Despot", give up on other people's societal normsor just slog on trying and slipping relentlessly? I can't think off hand of any despots or mad profesors who didn't end up facing villagers and pitchforks! It looks attractive but self defeating to me.

Hey another tirade of sorts... What do you guys think??

I think you thought WP was a bunch of clueless kids that you would dazzle with your attempts to troll, and when you found us sentient beings you changed your tone.

when you post just to wind people up, you lose your membership on WrongPlanet.net
