Offering another charity is a good idea. I suggest the autism research centre.
It's based in Cambridge university, includes Simon Baron-Cohen, a leading researcher againt the "cure", run by "normal" people, and big an respected enough to donate to, I think. They perhaps aren't a self-advocacy group, but they only do research, and their people don't search for a "cure" or define it as a disorder. They are also partnered with Britain's leading autism charity, the National Autistic Society, which speaks about neurodiversity.

Autism Speaks cannot claim that this research centre is against NTs, not important/scientific, etc.

Where's Toys R Us based, anyway? Here in the USA, we have lots of Toys R U stores, but I'm not sure whether they started here or somewhere else. Most likely they would want to support a charity in their "home country".

I agree, that's why I offered the research centre in Cambridge, and not the British "national" charity.

Cambridge seems more universal, I think.

So they can support the Autistic Self Advocacy Network, which is based in the USA.

Or the autism society of america, which is more mainstream and probably more acceptable to a large company that fears being thought of as too far either left or right politically. ASA includes autistic people in its decision-making (though not to such a high degree as they include professionals) and supports therapy and employment more than it supports cause/cure research. They don't emphasize disability rights so much as daily-life stuff; but they don't seem particularly fond of institutions. So, that would have a better chance of success than suggesting ASAN.

Are you implying that within the politics of autism, Autism Speaks is on the far right and the Autistic Self Advocacy Network is on the far left?
I never thought about it this way, but it does seem logical to me.
(I always just thought that Autism Speaks is against autistics and the Autistic Self Advocacy Network is in favor of autistics. This is why so many autistics join the Autistic Self Advocacy Network and none join Autism Speaks)

I had no idea how offensive these monsters were.

It takes a lot to offend me, I have skin so thick, I'm like a metaphorical rhinoceros, but watching those "I am autism" videos, and the one with the mothers talking about suicide because their kid is autistic...

I'm literally disgusted by these people, I'm not sure I've ever been as offended as I am by their assumption that they speak for me, much less those further into the spectrum.

As far as I am concerned, that is a declaration of war on who I am, and they are my foes. If given the chance, I will take every opportunity to strike them down, and the best method is with education.

Spread the word, autism speaks does not speak for me, nothing about us, without us.

If someone wants to start an online petition that is sure to be seen by the big-shots at Toys R Us I will surely sign it. For it to work it would need to be linked from lots of places. I liked the suggestion of suggesting they funnel their money to organizations that will actually help we autistics!! Autism Speaks! :x :x
