I read about this on another forum. The response from some of the members was quite shocking, they basically want to cure us, etc and don't like the idea of autistic people having a "culture". Also, apparantly some people aren't happy that a dirty autistic person has such an important job...

Can you link the thread? I'm just curious, is all.

While I generally think that the Obama Administration exist in order to act as a face-lift for US interests during a period when American weakness is increasing the need for an attractive image of America, I commend it for making this brave choice. Sad though that special rights groups have to exist - if this world was organised in a sane manner, there wouldn't be any need of it.

>>While both are present from birth, autism is a condition that impairs function. Homosexuals are not impaired in functioning, but rather but societal intolerance. Autism should be identified, treated, and...hopefully with time and with the root cause(s) identified, eliminated. Homosexuality...um, no.

Yay! A site full of hipsters!

EDIT: it's not as bad as some other sites i've been on. It's funny to see uncle tom autistics act so pro-neurodiversity in the space of two years. roffle.

EDIT 2: most of the responses were neutral i guess, with many that could fit as 'allied'.

Heh.

never heard that before: uncle-tom autistics. but makes perfect sense.

I think ASAN is doing a great job.

But then again, i also understand Christschools critism, I think we should have high expectations, but also contribute as much as we can to the change ASAN wants to implement.

I was very excited when I read this, and even forwarded a copy to the Multicultural Equity Council at the college where I work, as Ari summed up some things in about 10 pages that would have taken me about 100 pages, LOL!

It spurred a nice e-mail discussion among the college employees, who are starting to see ASD's from a much different point of view, especially the prevention and elimination model vs. the acceptance and support model with Ari's analogy to homosexuality.
