I have noticed a good number of times on WrongPlanet people have defended pedophiles in different threads and I find that quite alarming. Is this an autistic trait to come to the defense of sex offenders? I know two other autistic people one is my psychologist the other was the guy who told me about autistic services here in Buffalo. When I met him for the first time I asked him for his e-mail address he told me he could not use a computer due to a computer addiction. I believed him and left the subject alone since we all have our obsessions. Then I heard him make a comment to another person he was court ordered not to use a computer so I googled his name and sure enough he was a convicted sex offender whose victim was his 9 year old niece and later for possessing child pornography. I stopped hanging out with him immediatly I would never defend this man regardless that he is autistic or once a friend. :x

It's probably autistics coming to the defence of autistics.

I'm the first one to call a pedophile a string of nasty words, but so far I see no hard evidence he was trying to have sex with a 15 year old girl. Only the girl's mother is saying he tried.

Plenty of mothers have cried rape when there was none to keep a guy they don't like away from their child.

Until he's proved to be a paedophile, he ain't one. You've drawn a conclusion from incomplete evidence.

I wouldn't defend someone like that either. However, in the case of the man in the article, the mother only alleged that he had interfered with her daughter. The article does not cite supporting evidence that he did and he was not tried nor found guilty of doing so. Rather, he was found guilty of driving a car into her and caused her to be paralysed. I don't like the fact that Asperger's was used as a defence in that case but that is a separate issue from the allegations the woman made regarding her daughter.

I find it pretty annoying that woman comes across as a very negative person.

Who said that? For the record, she was paralysed and the guy was convicted of a crime.

"Who said that?". I did!

I think she should learn to accept it, EDIT: I kind of skimmed the article and didn't realize how long she was in the hospital at first. Now I understand better.

Yes, it was wrong what he did, I do believe that.

The man is a sex predator I wonder how many idiots are going to defend him here just because he has autism. Trash like this makes us all look bad.

Indeed.

The guy may not have interest in sex nor had an interest in having it with the 15 year old. It's very common in aspies to prefer to hang out with younger age groups or older age groups so maybe the aspie could relate more to teens so he was just hanging out with the 15 year old girl as friends. But the mother took it as he was interested in her as a romance and wanted sex.

It doesn't make someone a pedophile to hang out with a teen or a child because to be a pedophile, you have to be sexually attracted to them.

But hanging out with a teen or a child is asking for trouble because people assume you are one, they assume you are sexually attracted to them.

Yup, but I've always wondered why that's so. It makes no sense. It'd be like people assuming that whenever I got my phone out of my pocket, I was going to use it to detonate a bomb

That's true but when we have people like the three posters in this thread contributing to a witch hunt type atmosphere it never hurts to be extra cautious. The best advice: if you're an adult just stay the hell away from anyone underage that isn't your own child, if you can. Give people as few reasons to level a false accusation against you as possible, since false accusations of child molestation are, unfortunately, all too easy to make but very difficult to defend against.

I have yet to get an answer to my question, though. What's wrong with an adult just being friends with a teenager?

There's nothing wrong with it in and of itself. The problem arises from other people's reactions to it. Read Todesking's first post. The guy is ready to summarily execute* anyone he so much as suspects of being a pedophile. He's not alone. There are a lot of people who share his views.

*I misrepresented Todesking in this post. He actually wants to imprison for life anyone suspected of pedophilia. My mistake.

But why do people have that reaction to it?

As I said before, assuming that anyone who wants to be friends with someone who's younger than them is a paedophile is like assuming I'm about to detonate a bomb whenever I use my phone.
