Importance of communication skills
Without tolerance of personal choices the most effective speaking would never be more effective then near gibberish due to disability for and by people with communication related disabilities.

Hello,
I am enjoying the logic here!
A Doctor is not a legal Doctor unless they are qualified. Similarly A Lawyer is not a legal lawyer untless they have passed the bar.
Further would I be happy if I was charged with a capital crime and my lawyer could not speak English?? If this was so- how did they pass the bar exam. And would I be happy if an advocate on my behalf was inept and ended up validating the counter argument.
Where do these non-occurences take place?
I would not have a lawyer for a capital offence, I would employ a Queen's Counsel and their respective legal team, [they have all passed the bar and push it further].
Would I employ an advocate- no, as I am an advocate, and Life Coach. Would I if I had too, yes, and they better be good at it!
Your analogies are a little out of context. If I was going to put an argument forward.
Possiblly a way to move forward in the spirit of inclusivity, would be to give constructive support in the way forward, rather than going back into the point of contention.
Now, "warm and fuzzy",is an interesting phrase, I have heard it before. What do you really mean? Please do not hold back and post freely.
And who is killing with kindness, can you please offer an example of who killed whom with kindness in the true context of this forum? Who died, when and where?
Please remember in reality, that this is just a forum of thoughts only. Did we forget that we are on a computer!
Don't you think this is funny?
Thank you for reading my post.
All my very best to you!

Well I would not have a lawyer for a capital offence I would employ a Queen's Council and their respective legal team, [they have passed the bar and push it further].

Please do not patronise me with best wishes!
Would you mind giving me your credentials as a "life coach'?
I would have thought that effective advocates are invaluable and an ineffective advocate has a detrimental impact upon the community. It seems obvious to me but maybe not to you.
Well I would not have a lawyer for a capital offence I would employ a Queen's Counsel and their respective legal team
You wouldn't you know...because there are no Queen's Counsels in any jurisdiction that currently retains capital offences.
Thank you Zeraeph, you are completely right..... Mea culpa.

I thought a couple of the Carribean countries retain Capital Punishment,Oh and Singapore.
I thought a couple of the Carribean countries retain Capital Punishment,Oh and Singapore.
You might have a point there in that they can still practice in those jurisdictions even though they are not appointed in them...and, of course, they are usually excellent communicators.
Sorry about that Art-Sung.

I was not patronising you, I was being sincere from my side.
I am a member of the Australian Life Coaching Society and I am an accredited Coach of the Australian Sports Commission. I have Corporate Coaching experience in both Australia and New Zealand. In October I am the guest speaker at my regional Autism support group. I have a Master's Degree, my master's dissertation was on Asperger's.
I agree with you in regards to advocacy, but we only learn to be better at what we do through experience, we can offer such experience if we choose too.
This is better than shooting down someone, which is not a nice thing to do.
Do you have qualifications to be an advocate in the US?
In Australia you would not be taken seriously without education on your topic, and relative experience.
Without communications skills, an advocate may as well be catatonic. What could a non-communicative an advocate do besides take up space?
Fart?

A young girl wanted to, but was sadly disappointed that she might not be able to achieve her goal to advocate without a college degree. Not an issue specifically related to skills, but one related to differences in educational attainment
http://www.wrongplanet.net/postt172233.html
So you would be happy if your Doctor had not passed his/her degree and your lawyer had not passed the Bar?
My point here was that a standard was set for advocation of autism, that the young girl thought would be required to advocate anywhere for autism. When in fact, no college degree, is required for an individual to advocate for autism; in that specific job announcement apparently it was.
The analogy here is if non-impaired communication was a requirment of autism advocacy, there would be very few autistic people advocating for themselves, in the autistic community, or in the general community. Some literally can't, but they can still do it with communication devices, if given the training and the opportunity to use those communication devices.
It certainly doesn't require a college degree or non-impaired communication to advocate for Autism.
I suspect that we are talking at cross purposes.
To me, advocacy is a part of the political process to secure scarce resources and legislative change that will benefit Aspies. In order for it to be effective, such advocacy requires a professional approach, therefore, a degree is not an unreasonable requirement.
I suspect that your version of advocacy is "people advocating for themselves" which clearly does not require a degree.
I definitely see what you are saying here as an essential part of advocacy for Autism, and other disabilities, but it is a minor part of advocacy as a whole. Autism advocacy has numerous opportunities that don't require a degree, other than just self advocacy or the legislative process. I will agree that good social communication skills are a normal requirement in any legislative process and it is likely that a college degree might be required for those that engage in actual political lobbying efforts.
The advocacy that Ci provides for the disabled is an important aspect of advocacy for the disabled, that requires no college degree; this very well could be the type of advocacy that the young girl wanted to be part of in life, discouraged that one needed a college degree to do it. This topic of discussion on Advocacy hasn't been defined in the narrow legislative area by the OP, so I think I make a reasonable point here.
It is then ethical responsibility of any advocate that respects diversity to then seek to assist in developing the communication skills individuals who have communication difficulties but then to still respect them. Not to exclude them as if the more perfect ones or ideologically compatible in their ideas of a more perfect image in neurological race for instance only are the ones that may talk. Otherwise you are cleansing the communication pool of diversity and are quite profoundly guilty of what others accuse others of.

Surprising, how people adapt given the opportunity.

Graduating high school was not a goal I had for my son, Jeremy, diagnosed severely autistic when he was a toddler. But graduate, he did, with a 3.70 GPA, on the same day his sister, Rebecca, graduated form a neighboring high school.
On Friday, Jeremy gave a commencement speech during the graduation ceremony, using the same kind of voice output technology he has used to pass his tests and do his classwork. He recieived a standing ovation. Apparently there were no dry eyes in the audience when he finished his speech. Even the local NBC producer covering the graduation shed tears.
Jeremy's goal now is to attend college and to give back to the community by helping to create more awareness about autism and to inspire parents and educators to help others like him find their way out isolation.
