They took down the Autism Speaks Interview on AFF!

its saprising that an aspie rights org would censure a article,thats an autism speaks thing to do.as much as i respect the asan and other self adv.org's.i feel sometimes they act as an inversion of autism speaks as opposed to being a change from autism speaks.on modatorial note,if you feel post goes off topic or personal atacks take place,please message me.dont be afraid of getting someone in trouble,it takes a hell of a lot more than one message to get someone in trouble.im very anti censureship.your input helps me know where to look

It was surprising to me as well. There was certainly nothing offensive in the interview, many kind things were stated, whether or not one wants to trust them or not. Yes, I will PM you if needed. Thanks for your help.

I think it would be very wrong to even ask, and I will tell you why...

Nothing to do with my opposition to Autism Speaks at all.

AFF is a site that was founded, and funded largely to oppose organisations like Autism Speaks.

It is also a UK owned site that (I think) predates ASAN and is totally independent of it, certainly not, in any way subject to ASAN.

Having that article on the front page was a bad judgement call in the first place. Like putting a Klan poster on an ACLU noticeboard or a PLO poster on the door of a synagogue.

The owners of AFF oppose Autism Speaks and it is exceptionally misleading to everyone who sees it to have their PR bumpf on the front page. We are Autistic...it is also exceptionally easy to mislead us...even unintentionally...

It just best in this, as in all things, to try and make it as clear as possible where any community actually stands, so that we in turn can know where we stand in terms of that community.

Yes of course they could. This is Tambourine-Man's work and he can give it to asan, who can actually get to cross-checking what was said. Instead all these agressive people on AFF have done is ignore the fact that they have no evidence on hand and instead use blind feeling to say they need no proof to grill Autism Speaks.

Their lack of principle in this regard has of course meant that anyone who was politically inconvenient has then been called a various number of names, including condescending, whilst at the same time they try and bury these ideas under layered responses to other posts such as 'There is no point responding to this condescending person'.

If you wanted somewhere to publish your interviews and stuff you should have picked your platform more wisely. Not all neurodiversity organisations out there have the same goals or fill the same niche. You should have picked here due to the existing collaboration WP has with Autism Speaks (getting Alex to bother with your enquiries about it might be another matter though).

The personal attacks were abhorent and stuff, yeah ok I get it, but not what I was talking about. He would have ended up getting a frosty reception in the end anyway personal attacks or not, partly due to him and AFF having incompatible views (he, willing to shake John Elder's hand, while AFF wouldn't wanna be within 50ft of the man).
Trying heroically to unite AFF and Autism Speaks together is simply a ludicrous thing to even try. Anyone who's been hanging around the different groups for a long while would know this.

He isn't trying to unite anything. he's trying to improve autspeaks, actually force it to change rather than fighting it in to the floor, turn all that funding to our direction rather than waste it. Also your example of why there would be a frosty reception isn't a good one at all. AFF not wanting to be within fifty metres. That just makes people on AFF sound petty. Although I could make some chiding remark about how that could be the case, I am not a giant, snobby idiot so I wont.

That doesn't provide an excuse for the lock. If anything it proves that AFF only had bad reasons for doing so, namely because they hate even the possibility of autspeaks doing anything good ever. Now I do suspect autspeaks of bad things, but unlike people with no life I like proof before I COMMIT TO MAKING ACCUSATIONS. There are no excsuses.
