This isn't considered child abuse under the law because...?
today it is and im suprised it happens.in the old days, bed restraints, body bags, physical resraints were often the only way to keep violent children from hurting themselves and other.what other possibly options did the staff have.it was when children were left in there own body functions and childen were strapped to bedsw for months at a time that there was a problem.that is what led to the ban on those restraints and the closing of many institutions

Quote:
Baker said when school officials called the family to pick him up, they were told he was "jumping off the walls." Days later, at a meeting with school officials, Baker said she was told the boy had smirked at the teacher when he was told to put down a basketball, then threw it across the room.

Quote:
Baker stopped short of calling for the dismissal of school employees, but she said they should be suspended. They also need more training, she said.

This first quote tells me that school officials do not understand the complexities of Autism. Some of the problems that i see in the school systems are the same that i see in the scientific community.

Too often, the behaviors of Autistics are judged by Neuro-Typical motivations.

But, i have to be fair and ask the question, what are the chances of having a teacher who has adequate knowledge of a group of people that (allegedly) represent 1% of the population?

What would happen to a parent who stuffed their child into a duffle bag and zipped it closed, as punishment? You KNOW CFS woulsd be involvwed and there is a good chance the child would be taken out of the home. It is no more 'legal' in a school setting and to claim this has some sort of 'therapeutic effect' - I'd like to see the research supporting it.

This smacks of the 'icepick lobotomy' mentality. "I don't know what to do with you so I'm going to make you go away..."

They keep coming up with excuses of rights to torture kids with autism for their differences under the guise of "therapy".

Some of the comments make me sick.
