I'm not so sure that's a good idea, either.

Myself, I feel like running around in a big neon T-shirt that says "Difference Does Not Equal Deficit." Only with the "does not equal" sign in place of the words.

I'm smart enough to know that doing so would just make me a target-- AGAIN-- and that pissed me off.

*snarl*

But-- I feel ya, man. I feel ya.

I don't think it is wise to go around telling people that autistics are superior geniuses but rather there is a subtle way to raise the hypothetical question of the super human.

So anyway we can raise the question that if a super human were to appear before us how would we treat such an individual? Would we indeed become ashamed of ourselves if we realized that its intelligence made us look like monkeys in comparison? Would we try and defend our intelligence by nit picking the super human and finding fault with it? Perhaps we would comfort ourselves by declaring the super human mentally ill and unfit for our society. How would we deal with the sexual morals of the super human ? The super human that is an angelic being and believes in free love as opposed to the monogamous marriage, yet the super human will not practice free love in our corrupt society but rather chooses to be celibate or limit himself to one wife. The super human that has the knowledge to travel through space and time. Would we laugh at such an individual and call it a dreamer? Would we declare that its dreams of space travel and time travel are a waste of money? When the super human cries out for help, what would we do? We laugh at the star child when it cannot even tie its own shoes.

Should be possible to hide the AS diagnosis.

It's not the diagnosis that causes me difficulty working so much as the things that are why I have a diagnosis. The worst is that I have severe hypersensitivities. I've had people tell me that my sensory issues severe enough that they tend to occur in nonverbal people, not people who look as "high functioning" as I do.

You're right. I've suspected for a couple of months now that you've probably got your head on straighter than I do; I think you've just proved that I'm right (about that anyway).

Sorry... I'm not trying to say you're entirely wrong. I'm trying to explain my view on the matter. I've just dealt with a lot of both of these sides lately.

What were your majors in?? They say academia is one haven Aspies have created for ourselves. Might give it a shot...

Math/Computer Science. I'm likely going to look into academia once I can get back into grad school. I am actually enough of an academia person that it might work.

Well, if you ever want to go the self-reliant survival farm route, I'm recruiting. Each according to their ability. It's a nice fantasy-- about the only one I have left.

Just need to find someone whose "ability" includes business contracts, legalese, and dealing with society at large.

That would actually be great to know exists even though I'd be unlikely to join in any other group for it (inability to trust that there will be no smokers). My boyfriend has fantasized about a highly technical commune before. I could really see us going the very strong self-reliant survival farm route.

Any serious ideas how to create environments where people with asperger can thrive?

About a year ago we tried autism supremacy but the movement failed because we responded in hate. this became a trap because that is exactly what the neurotypicals want is for us to hate them and feel powerless. This time we will respond to our oppressors with love.

I wish, that would be the best thing ever.......I'd get to write songs about everything I'm pissed off about to try and educate people, and basically do what I want except I'd have to keep up the music to continue making a living.

It's about doing something, not hating someone.

I think for a starter that some meet ups in IRL in various places around the world would be a good start. However without NT-parents, shrinks, minders etc.

Then cooperate on business deals, find interesting persons etc. In an environment free of NT social demands.

One side effect of increased awareness is the increase in adults seeking a formal diagnosis, self diagnosing or in some way identifying to some degree as (possibly) autistic.

As many aspergers tend to be quite intelligent. There's plenty of opportunity to screw the NT-world in the long run. Don't forget that..

Once like minded people find each others it's way easier to create something more pleasant than the existing conditions allow.

Well first of all if you want to be a Rock Star don't fall into that American Idol trap where their can be only one Rock Star and everyone else are losers. Maybe a better model would be the free Woodstock concert of the 1960's where nobody wins because each individual member of the audience decides if they have a favorite rather than professional judges who are good at nitpicking rather than discovering any real talent.

When I write songs I use existing songs as my framework and adapt them to my life experiences. The lyrics become radically altered and thus improved. People accuse me of stealing or parroting but under communism minds and thoughts become freely shared so a synthesis develops.

What the hell does American Idol have to do with rock music? screw that, woodstock concert of the 60's>>>American Idol. also most rock bands I listen to do did not start out by being judged by so called music professionals who probably don't even know the first thing about rock music.

also I've never wrote song lyrics, and bass guitar is much harder to learn than I thought so I haven't gotten anywhere...so I doubt it will ever happen, I guess the concerts and listening to music elsewhere will have to work.

It's not that American Idol does not have accomplished musicians. Simon Cowell does not count because he is not a musician but he thinks he has a say because he is a producer but all he does is give out negative criticism. But Paula Abdul would count as a very accomplished musician and I admire her songs which teach the savage nobility of monogamous marriage. But I would not last one minute if I auditioned before her because I would rebut everything she believes in by singing that angelic beings who do not marry nor are they given in marriage are the greatest lovers.

We're like X-Men style mutants. "Normal" people hate us and are trying to cure us (X-3). Some of us gain exceptional abilities (Storm). It makes it hard for some of us to fit in and we become isolated (nightcrawler). Some of us are severely impaired (student with skin so delicate the wind tore it). There are big differences within our communities that lead to a lot of infighting (Professor X vs. Magneto). We're raised sometimes by people who just don't get it (have you tried not being a mutant?).

And Dazzler is kinda a Rockstar.
