Yes this is the only reason why the fictional character of Raymond Babbit was a partially authentic reflection of somebody with autism. However in terms of Hollywood the only semi-accurate/authentic portrayal is Clare Danes depiction of a young Temple Grandin. Temple was (I believe?) involved in the writing of the movie.

Sheldon Cooper was based of a introverted nerd who was known to one of the Big Bang writers and at no time was there any attempt to portray somebody with autism. There may be individuals with Aspergers who resemble Sheldon to a certain degree but it wasn't intentional.
