Ya, that's the kind of stuff that needs more awareness.

There's enough of us that we should be able to make some noise. I think we should form some sort of mass movement to bring attention to the fact that sending a negative message about autistics is not the way to go.

"Hate crime" is the wrong term and using it doesn't make sense so I suggest people find another word (even genocide is more applicable).

So do you think that eliminating Autism would require genocide?

There's a risk of sounding like a Politically-Correct spin doctor here, but maybe... neural fascism? I think 'neural intolerance’ is good, as it describes the situation well without sounding like a drama queen. Though either way, it's not to be taken lightly

Yes, but rats! There's a Neurocide Records already, and various other Google hits.

No, it should not be made into a criminal act because doing so would simply be too much of a risk to our freedom of speech and thought.

I can't believe I'm saying this to you...

Someone did create a "movement" to do just this... It's called "WrongPlanet.net". :D

I believe that Genocide IS a hate crime.

we could organize a world wide day of education.

Think of it, from all over the world, WP members making appointments at their local TV stations and newspaper article writers all co-ordinated on our website where there would be talking points for what it is we wanted them to know.

Absolutely Alex! I've been feeling strongly about this in the last few weeks.

Last year 2 of my 3 sons were diagnosed with Asperger's (at ages 6 and 8). So last year was devoted to intensive therapy for the boys while I spent all my spare time learning about Asperger's.

Now I'm seeing the bigger picture and have been shocked + appalled at the negative perceptions about Asperger's / Autism.

I gave a talk at work a cople of weeks ago to 100+ physiotherapists and it went really well.
However, it's just a drop in the ocean of awareness required.

I also had the pleasure of meeting a few WP members in London. I've been so optimistic since meeting them because they were so fantastic. A glimpe into how my sons will be when they grow up.

We need people with skills in marketing to get a better message out there.

Helen

Okay, so would you be in favor of finding a cure? I would be myself if I didn't think the cure could haunt those of us that don't want it.

I think that in order to pull that off, a lot of us would need education on how to handle ourselves on tv, but it could work,

What if we did it ourselves? I mean, pulled our own resources to make PSAs that could be aired on the local tv and radio stations right here?

The Ad Council does contests where average people make their own PSAs and the winners are aired on tv. maybe something could be done like that.

for those of us that could, we would, for those of us who are better writing essays, we can do that, for those better on the phone, we can do that.
the effect will be that we coordinate to do it on the SAME DAY, or WEEK. . .other than that, we would have no 'hook'.

I read where people did 'flash mobs ' in New York City and Boston by texting to groups of folks that subscribed to texting on their cell phones to gather in specific places.
check it out FLASH MOB

but instead of breaking out into a mass pillow fight, we could break out into journalistic interviews, or giving written statements.

And that sort of thinking is how democracy dies, Silver.

No one could possibly support genocide/eugenics and in the same breath talk about freedom of speech!
