I was thinking the same thing, except that this is our second murderer. This site was mentioned in news stories about the other one too.

Is there an inordinate number of Aspies who are murderers? 8O

I really do not think so. It is just the fashionable "excuse" right now, a way of trying to understand what really cannot be understood. I am very uncomfortable with the way the term is being referenced in these reports. I do worry that it creates a false impression of Aspies.

I suppose for some people it would create a false impression. As if those of the rest of us who are here were harbouring him or something.

I remember last year when the goth kid brought his gun to school and shot up a bunch of kids before the cops managed to stop him, he brought all sorts of negative attention to the bulletin board on which he posted... Same thing, I suppose.

I should state though, I'd like to believe that anyone with a half a brain would know that this guy wasn't indicative of the rest of us anymore than I am indicative of anyone of the rest of you.

I'm getting a feeling of deja-vu, this crud has been brought up here and elsewhere.

That's a bit scary... but then I guess just walking down the street you could walk past a murderer or have a chat about the nice weather or something, so it's not really too surprising in a large forum like this. I'd be more concerned about all aspergians or people claiming to be aspergergians being tarred as murderers - first we're all Rain Man, next we're all murderers... whatever next?!

This bastard should be ashamed of himself, if he can feel shame.

An Autistic writes - We can all bury our heads in the sand and pretend that Aspiedom is all rich geeks and eccentric scientists, but I'm afraid the truth is not quite so fluffyhoneybunnies. Some basic studies in the UK have indicated that 40% of HFA's have used violence at some point [Maybe provoked after bullying] and that one prison study indicated a prevalence of ASD's, 10 times of the population in general. Try Googling AUTISM FORENSIC UK. Sorry guys, it's not all Bill Gates and Temple Grandin.

Errr I sent a post to that guy.

My first impression was he did come across a bit creepy saying he was better than other people, also saying he didn't have any hygene.

Don't worry, he's not going to be posting for quite awhile...

I wonder how they know he posted here. The bad publicity is unfortunate and misleading.

They have his computer. As you probably know, nothing is truly deleted from a hard drive. More than likely they found it while looking through his internet haunts in search of a possible motive.

I saw that story on the news Sunday night and they only flashed momentarily on the forum page, but I immediately recognized that it was from this site. Knowing the media like I do, I wonder how many 'guests' we have crawling our forum right now in search of possible murderers and other criminals. Maybe one of the oldtimers can tell me how many online guests and members we have on here normally during a given day. I bet the number of spiders has grown exponentially in the last 24 hours. I changed out my avatar because I work in the media and though my picture was 'artsy,' people would still know it's me. Sort of dismays me that I've written some rather personal stuff here. If my bosses see any of it, I'm screwed.

Oh well... such is life.

What's the difference between someone who's murdered someone being on this site and a serving soldier being on this site?

Legal or not, they've both killed someone -- the only difference is that one made it onto the news as a murder. It's not like he was trawling this site looking for victims, is it? Calm down.

Soldiers can feel remorse.

The guy only did two posts, so you can't really say he is much of a member WP. If people are crawling through here they are really low, because this site is for helping people with their problems

Yeah I it's best to keep your identity private if you put personal information on the net. I've heard of people getting into trouble for what they wrote on myspace and bebo etc.

There are some pretty low people out there, and a lot of them work for the media, LOL. I guess we can hope that if they're trawling this site after the recent publicity, maybe they'll learn a little something about ASDs and expand their awareness just a bit.

I agree. I haven't ever given my full name online, not even here. But because I have a inner morality code that smacks me in the brain if I don't tell the truth about myself, I did use a real photo. No longer, though. Any jerk out there desperate enough to track you down can do so with just a photo and little else if they set their minds to it. It has happened to me before.
