AUTISM SHOULD NOT BE USED AS AN EXCUSE... even people with LFA are able to form the mens rea for a crime.

Maybe if he was in such a state that he had non-insane automatism than in that case it would be acceptable.
But this should be clear cut, like all murders... Take a life, pay the toll.

The person who decapitated another on a greyhound bus said he heard a "voice from god" and he was
found not mentally stable enough to understand killings are wrong.

BUT THIS IS COMMON KNOWLEDGE! by the age of 18 or even earlier, should know that murder is a crime
and to take a life is an offense.

what about people with mental illnesses? They walk for murder quite a bit. That guy that sliced up a man on the Canadian highway on a Greyhound bus, cut him up and committed canabalism on him did not get the death sentance, he is considered mentally ill and is now in an aslyum until he 'gets well'.

If this goes through one thing that is likely to happen is that autism/asperger's will no longer be seen as a sympathetic condition to one that is dangerous to society and other people. The result will be there will be an even stronger push for a cure, less tolerance of autistic/aspie people in mainstream society because they will be seen as a potential danger to others around them and more autistic/aspie people involuntarily admitted into mental asylums on the basis of their autism alone. Asperger's will transform from being the "geek's" condition which is mostly harmless to others to something dangerous.

For example, other parents may push schools to not accept autistic/asperger students because they are afraid that their kids may get stabbed to death by the "crazies" who feel no emotions for other people. Aspies will find it even more difficult to find employment. And forget about support for increasing services and funding. Lock them away or dope them up with medication yes. The principal concern will start being how to protect other people from the crazy aspies than helping the aspies. And did someone say something about a cure?

The people who will suffer the most from asperger's/autism seen as a valid excuse for murder are aspie's themselves. I think people here should *not* underestimate the power of public perceptions and stereotypes.
