Why does every single recent autism movie have to be a love story?

I saw it when I was at a festival with If You Could Say It In Words. Max Mayer, the director of Adam, and I got to talk for a bit, mostly about how we had both come to make aspie-NT romance movies at roughly the same time on opposite sides of the country.

The movie is good, very sweet and heartwarming -- not really as funny as some of the marketing might lead one to assume, but a good date movie that I think a lot of NTs will go to and hopefully learn a few things. I think it represents the ASD community well and deserves the community's open support. It will encourage a lot of positive conversation and can help combat some bad stereotypes that are still out there.

I was told by the producers it opens in limited release in July and goes wide in August.

It looks great. I love Hugh Dancy.
I don't mind if it's a love story. People probably think aspies don't fall in love.
If it comes out in Australia I'll let my family know about it, although my sister has watched Skins and didn't talk to me about JJay. Bah.

Oh and if you're sick of aspie rom com's I'm trying to write a teenage drama about AS.

Looks very interesting indeed. I'll look forward to seeing it.

It does look interesting. That guy has better social skills than me - he realized she was upset.

An aspie slasher movie would be really scary, "The Bloody Librarian."

But it probably wouldn't do much to help our image.

How about an aspie cop show called "The Nerd Squad?"

Actually I heard a news special a while back about a team of agents in the FBI who do nothing but investigate art thefts. Not a job for the average cop.

It's either "aspie" love stories or "autie" super-powers. It's such a sad, sad state of affairs when "normal" people make movies about "abnormal" people and apply normal desires and emotive relativity to the same "abnormal" individuals (fame and glory through super-powers and human connection through attaining sexual relations, the milestone).

They just don't get it.

huh? A movie about AS! I just saw the trailer of the first page here...Its not my kind of movie for sure but I got some interest to see this one due to the AS part of course.
I havent been to the cinemas for years and would have to keep track of it to not miss it . But first it would be nice to get some reviews from people of WP who have seen the full movie
