If you didn't give them any money then you have nothing to complain about what they do with their money I would imagine.

This is a textbook example, and a pretty obvious one at that, of saying that a person cannot speak or criticize something because they are not related to it in an arbitrary way.
It's stupid really because the whole thing abuout autism speaks is that it is supposedly aimed at us. It's also an attack on free speech because everyone has the right to formulate, voice an opinion on and challenge everything.

The last time I checked, it's called "Autism Speaks", not, "who gives us money speaks".

Well said.

I also find it amusing to change around their slogan: "Autism speaks. It's time to listen." to "[Hey], Autism Speaks, it's time to listen." As if we are adressing them and telling them they need to listen to us. :D

I think you have to donate money if you want that kind of treatment.

I may be wrong, but I do not think Autism Speaks is aimed at Autstic adults. I have always assumed they are an organisation focused around parents of Autistic children.
Were they not started by Grandparents or something??
I see no problem with their research, and I do not see why they should give any money to CockneyRebel, which is what she asked for.
My main point is uh..keep this epic thread alive!

What is autism speaks doing for adults? What are they doing for autistics now?

They answer some of these questions in this article.

True but I think not only will all 'autistics' be effected by a group called autism speaks directly, but I also think that people have a right to discuss any subject.

Right right... Anyways giving money to cockney rebel may be less justifiable but why exactly is it not?

Thanks, from a quick scan, to me it looks like the things they are contributing towards are worthwhile things.
I should clarify, I am a parent of a child with Autism. I have nothing to do with Autism Speaks, they are not in my country, but I went to their website once - through Google - when trying to find information on SCERTS.
I thought the information they provide there was unbiased and objective and comprehensive in its breadth. The only site I've found that lists and discusses every therapy that I've heard of. A moderately useful reference I thought.
