the original reason why i didn't like south park was because i barely watched it and the ones i did watch were bad episodes. now i have officially realized the political genius this show is. i hope they do an autism episode :) also, their episode making fun of trannsexuality was one of my all time favorites. http://www.southparkstudios.com/guide/e ... new-vagina

Of all the characters on the show, I think Butters is the most likely candidate for having Asperger's. That instinctual adherence to authority and being terrified of all authority figures to the point of extremely bizarre behavior is something that I know personally, and something I know is associated with Asperger's specifically. He also completely lacks common sense and is extremely gullible, two other traits I know personally. Really, when I was Butters's age, I was shockingly similar to him. Really, I was a cross between Butters and Tweek. If Tweek's horrible anxiety isn't solely caused by his excessive caffeine intake, then he is a potential candidate too, although he might just have an anxiety disorder. But I know that the comorbidity of autism spectrum disorders and the anxiety disorders are extremely high, making it even more likely. Still, it's not on the whole likely, just possible. Of all the main and recurring ancillary characters, I think only Butters and Tweek have a significant chance of having Asperger's, although even with them it's nowhere near certain. Well, Jimmy might too, but it's also possible he has full-fledged autism. Timmy might have autism as well, but definitely not Asperger's.

They are probably trying to figure out a way to delve into the topic of autism in an episode, in which people would get it....I mean the general public still isn't very knowledgeable on it. I mean like if they made fun of how some people on the spectrum try to say we are superior to neurotypicals, a lot of people wouldn't even get that reference so I am thinking maybe its just a matter of figuring out a way to do it that will make people laugh rather than confuse them.

But yes they are in fact supposed to make fun of everything.....and yes its roughly based on some small mountain town in colorado, there isn't a town called south park just an area with small towns in it and some around the area hence why the characters sometimes end up in Denver though they end up plenty of other places to.

Synopsis
"Cartman finds a unique way of coping with Asperger's syndrome. Even Kyle and Kenny are on board.
Meanwhile, Stan can't seem to get his life back to normal no matter what he tries. Will anything ever be the same in South Park again?" A Minor editorial It's Stan whom ends up getting treated for AS as he is introduced to others whom appear to have AS tho are only "acting the part" in order to deal with their own cynical views about the world Meanwhile Cartman takes the name of Asperger's too literal.

In the Season 15 episode 'Ass-Burgers' Stan is diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome as a result of him seeing the world so negatively, this essentially leads to a Matrix parody where it turns out the positive world that NTs see is an illusion and people with Asperger's see the world as it really is, with Stan only able to return to the illusionary world by drinking alcohol. Meanwhile Cartman tries to be excused from school work by convincing the school nurse he has asperger's, he attempts this by doing something with burgers (pretty self explanatory). So South Park in a way already have covered AS in an episode, although the main plot of the episode doesn't really have much to do with Asperger's at all since it's mainly about The Matrix and Cartman's burger scheme.

I've been a longtime fan of South Park since it first premiered. But I've never seen them make fun of autistic people. As an Aspie, I'm offended by this! Do they not think autistic people are funny? We can be just as funny as everyone else (As Rain Man has proven)!

Your thoughts?

They did.

That season 15 episode people mention was on yesterday in this country!

I found it disappointing, aside from the focus on the food stall _ plus that "joke" about what our condition sounds like is SO old _ it was in a 90s sitcom Becker so it's not really as cutting edge comedy as SP is.

Though the premise of Stan losing interest in everything and losing his best friend because he couldn't deal with Stan`s negativity was an interesting idea for plot (and relatable _ happened to me) the running joke of literally everything being sh%t was too overdone and not that funny in the first place and the emphasis of this part I thought made neglected the morals compared to other episodes.

PS I love the idea of the episode about Butters getting grounded for being diagnosed , that fits his parents dynamics so well! :)

They have done an Autistic episode, unless the name of it is misleading but I doubt it. The episode's called "Ass Burgers". I've never seen it and never will because it will probably just really piss me off. I don't enjoy South Park as much as I used to. I very, very rarely ever watch it anymore because I can no longer stand the ridiculous amount of ignorance in that show. So I don't want to see people that don't know what they're talking about with half the s**t they incorrectly make fun of, especially when they'd be doing it about people like myself. The title alone is enough of a warning of how bad it would likely be.

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't realize other people had already mentioned the episode. I wouldn't have bothered posting it otherwise. I did an alt+f search for "ass burgers" on every page in this thread, only to find out after I posted this that several people just above me posted about it, only without typing it that way, or at all. But I've posted it now so I'm gonna leave it.

Butters might have mild or moderate Autism. Im surprised that they didn't do anything to make fun of Autistic people. I heard they made fun of people with Aspergers which is a form of really mild Autism in one episode.

I thought Butters was on the spectrum at first, but I don't think he is, as his parents don't treat him right so I think that might be the cause of his odd behaviours.

The Ass Burgers episode doesn't offend me at all. In fact I couldn't wait to watch it and I enjoyed it when I finally did watch it. I don't really let shows like that offend me. It's people who get offended so easily that causes shows to have to limit everything they say which is what's wrong with the world today.

The "Ass burgers" episode itself was not the problem, it was that so many other used "Ass burgers" to mock and bully Aspies.

It's been years since I've seen that episode, but I think it was supposed to mock Cartman's ignorance (as a stand-in for people that are ignorant on ASD) as well as making fun of anti-vaxxers.

Yeah, I have no idea how anyone can be offended by a cartoon, and even less so one that makes fun of absolutely everyone. That's what's so great about it (and the fact that it's funny, of course). That's the way it should be.

I too miss the world that was less hysterical. It wasn't nastier, it was just more relaxed and people were expected to be able to take a joke.
