Let's End Autism Speaks

[quote="Edenthiel"]The last decade or so has seen the tremendous growth of what is sometimes called, "Non-profit, Inc". Generally speaking, a few very socially adept people with envious sales abilities will find a cause they think they can use to raise donations and create an organization. They don't really care which side their organization is on, nor if they do any harm. Autism Speaks very much seems to be such an organization."
No, that's not consistent with the history of AS. They do really care which side they are on, they do intend to do harm (eradication of autistic people) and the genesis of the organisation was the affront that the grandparents Bob and Suzanne Wright felt on discovering that they had an (unacceptably imperfect in their view) autistic grandson. This perceived blemish on their reputation and egos -as perfect, successful people basking in that self image - led to the formation of Autism Speaks. They have a large staff and solicit millions every year, most of which they give to researchers who are seeking funding for projects that suit their agenda - the ultimate eradication of the scourge of autism from the human race.

My sister who is a speech pathologist that has autistic kids as clients was visiting today and I was lobbying her to buy the "Neurodiversity" book and she says that she has parents all the time demanding she "fix" their kids. Today people can resolve many things instantaneously, so many people expect every issue to be instantly solvable. That is what we are fighting against.

Actually, that does sound very much like the other groups I was speaking of, I just didn't go into the zealotry. It's so very convenient when the two go together.

Problem is there already is many such charities:

Then you can consider Autism Speaks call for unity:
https://www.autismspeaks.org/blog/2015/08/25/call-unity
What we need is unity AGAINST Autism Speaks among all their competitors, but of course Autism Speaks is unified and they all ultimately compete against each other for the same cause. The ultimate irony of the autistic advocacy movement is so much energy must be spent fighting a single group which is supposed to be supporting us, rather than actually addressing the fundamental issues.
Autism Speaks very much seems to be such an organization.
Our family has been affected by a different such group here in California. They've tried several times since 2007 to create laws that would essentially outlaw the legal equality of a group of people. Each time, groups opposing them - typically because they have loved ones that fall in the targeted group - must engage in a public campaign not only of education but also familiarity. By putting a real, human face on the targeted people, the hate group's vileness is exposed. And they lose, again. The crux of it though, is that they don't really care if they lose because they are then free to start up another campaign and solicit more donations from the extremists. It's like a cottage industry, really. In their case winning would deprive them of a target and thus, their salaries.
So rather than trying to defeat them, they must be made irrelevant. The body of educated, familiar people must grow until it includes their once dependable extremists. Also, once public opinion has shifted and solidified, it seems at some point their extremists become so few in number they are forced to find some other topic, some new target to vilify.
Okay, that seems to be a pretty good description of the situation, aside from the bias of the Wrights which is preventing the organization from changing trajectory.
Did the trademark it? If not, nothing is stopping you. The .com domain is still open.
