As an autistic person I have been extremely lucky - I learned to mask quickly and effectively, and found my niche in non-people-facing tech work. Nevertheless I wish this had been around when I started work 40 years ago. Now all we have to do is actually get employers to read it.

I read some of the report and it mentions the "next steps" including a change in the ways of thinking on behalf of employers?

I'll believe it when I see it. I am skeptical, however. Asking the average prole to be more understanding of autism or especially asking them to be accommodating with regards to employment, seems to be beyond most of them.

I think you're absolutely right. The good news is that, in terms of employers, it's not about understanding - it's about capitalism. If they start seeing other companies employing autistic people and increasing their profit as a result, they will gladly do the same.

The pandemic had a similar effect. A lot of employers noticed how much more efficient a lot of their employees were as a result of having to work remotely, and allowed them to continue doing it. If it hadn't been for the pandemic, they would never have given them the chance.

(Yes, I know - a lot of them will simply never get it.)
