This is personal opinion.

Passionate, yes, but I didn't see her being irrational or nasty or arrogant there, unless you're a doctor pushing vaccines...

she is making assumptions about a topic she has very little understanding of, she lashes out at people that question her "logic" and seems to agree with concepts that have very little scientific validity.

Microbiology major here. Vaccines trigger immunity to pathogens. It is exceedingly rare for them to interact with other parts of the system.

Even if they did, autism is better than measles.

you would agree with neurotoxicity, right?

it does makes sense, a snake bite is neurotoxin it can kill, damgae your brain, etc, but I have never heard of a person getting autism from being bitten by a snake.

the point is not that vaccines are safe, but that they do not cause autism. The causing autism part has no credible science to even back it up. Genetic inheritance has the most scientific evidence. viruses from vaccines do not have scientific evidence either although there is a possiblity it could be the cuase for some cases.

Neurotoxins exist, yes. I have yet to see a credible source demonstrate that there are neurotoxins in vaccines.

Autism is more highly heritable than scizophrenia, OCD, and most other disorders. The environmental impact does not seem to be very significant.

Might I point out I have a strong family history of autism?
The argument isn't whether or not vaccines are safe - but, hey, I'm still breathing.
The argument is about whether or not they cause autism - an impossibility, considering what autism is, and whether or not an unqualified, rather simplistic extremely religious woman has the right to spread misinformation and rumours as fact?
I don't buy her "archangel michael done told me I gots ter kill autism, y'all" nonsense... So no.

She watched her son die in front of her after a vaccine, you can hardly blame her for trying to spread the word that they aren't safe and demand they be made safer - any other mother would be doing the same; anything to stop another parent going through that hell!!

I have a strong family history of autism too. I've was born with Aspergers. Doesn't mean that genetics is the only thing at play - there's yet to be any conclusive scientific proof or consensus on what causes autism and how exactly and entirely it manifests, so who's to say there's not a number of environmental triggers in this modern, polluted world triggering autism of one kind or other in susceptible individuals? You're hammering their immune systems from the moment they leave the womb for goodness sakes!!

Either way, vaccines are not safe at all, and they need reformulating. End of.

"she watched her son die in front of her..."
That's sick, that's perverse and incredibly offensive - you should be ashamed for saying such a stupid thing.

Question, did her child's symptoms seemingly manifest after the immunization? Whilst it probably didn't set off the disorder (if it caused an allergic reaction, I don't see why it couldn't set of the ASD if the person is genetically predisposed to it), many people have thought that some life event was what caused it; it's very common to hear parents say that a death of a pet or such to have corresponded with the onset of the disorder. People like a reason to blame, and when emotions are involved, it blinds one (love blinds).

I had a bad reaction to the MMR needle, and I also caught the measles too in young adulthood; the reaction to the needle was worst than measles in my case. It's not perfect or clear cut, especially when we're talking about individuals. I know the reaction didn't give me the ASD, but it was by no means safe in my case, nor did it work.

(O, and it's probably likely that some viral or bacterial infection is what causes the "Childhood-onset Autism" in those genetically predisposed to it. The woman in question may have even given it to her son.)

Yes, that is one of my biggest beefs with her. She portrays autism as the worst thing that could happen to a child, worse than measles, worse than death... when really it's not. And the really sad part is, a lot of parents use this same justification "They were already dead inside" when they decide to kill their autistic children.

Parents have killed their autistic children? Severely autistic children, right?

It isn't certain about the severity - the idiotic parents kill the kids before they're old enough to be appropriately identified. Savage behaviour.

You've not looked very far. http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/pinkbo ... able-2.pdf

From that table "Includes vaccine ingredients (e.g., adjuvants and preservatives) as well as substances used during the manufacturing process, including vaccine-production media, that are removed from the final product and present only in trace quantities."

The toxic stuff is part of the production process and is later removed. Big freakin' deal.

My uni has the country's largest autism genetics research lab. The project leader has said that autism is more heritable than almost any other disorder.

Vaccines are a hell of a lot safer than preventable illnesses.

Your first link is unimpressive, and the second is off-topic. There are rare adverse immune responses to vaccination, yes. The risk of not vaccinating still far outweighs the risk of vaccinating.

Uh, Autism is a zillion times worse than measles. Measles is a gentle stroll in a poison ivy plantation compared to Autism; Autism is like stabbing yourself in the eye with a wire when you look at someone else in the eye (and that's only one of the thousands of symptoms).

I could argue this, but I won't bother. Suffice it to say that life with autism is not doomed to misery.

But anyways, it isn't a choice between autism and measles because MMR doesn't cause autism. You don't get to choose whether you'll be autistic, but you can influence your risk of having measles.
