After 2nd grade my parents were told the school could not help me, they were given the choices of 1. Home school me 2. Private school. They found a Yeshiva that accepted me. The public school readmitted me for fifth grade. I believe if my parents were not teachers the recommendation would have been institutionalization.

So how did you two fit in with the rigid settings of a classroom environment?

The private school was smaller and able to give me more individual attention. Because of the small class size the teachers were able to see what was going on and prevent bullying.

Same here. I always felt like an outsider and was often teased, but it never escalated to outright physical bullying.

Also my parents did an excellent job of tutoring me at home. At some point during first grade, I not only caught up with my classmates academically; I became one of the top students, to everyone's surprise.
