We don't need to be cured, that's the thing!
I do, kthx. Just like you don't want people speaking for you and saying all autism must be cured, I don't want other people speaking for "we" saying that I don't need cured.
Why? I'm just wondering, because I personally don't want to change myself, even with all the negative things I deal with because of AS. It's part of who I am, and the positive stuff makes up for all the stuff I've dealt with in my life.
Well, I've just always had a yearning to do a lot of things that my AS completely cripples me from doing. Especially things that require fine motor skills. I've always been really interested in extreme sports, dirt biking, skate boarding, bmx, etc. I get hurt way too often when I do things like that, I'm just not made for it. So I find it impossible to even work on my motor skills when I'm so afraid of screwing up and getting really hurt (always do).
I like to talk. I like to debate. I like to relate. But I can't find anyone to do that with. Would be nice to be a little less awkward.
My ability to focus only on narrow interests makes it hard for me to concentrate on anything else. I'm afraid to go back to school, though I really want to.
I just feel like there are many more things I have the desire to do but can't, more than I worry about losing my attention to detail or ability to memorize music in great detail, etc.
I know that people can be unique and intelligent, even weirdo's, while still being NT. So I don't really fear becoming some socialite wannabe prom queen or something. I just want to be better able to fulfill all these desires I have to do great things.
