the burden of proof is on you to show some indication that things will progress in that direction. all im saying is that we cant really know. it might happen, but also it might not. you're the one making a statement, not me.

Well think about it, if we start having screening tests for everything then it will eventually lead in that direction, it's just how it will progress. Just like how the modern world is becoming a lot like 1984 with CCTV cameras, internet censorship and such.

What the hell do you want me to do, buy a f*****g time machiene?

Just use your brain, think about it. First they have screening for diseases, then they have screening for autism which is basically a different way of thinking, then after that we will have screening for homosexuality and ginger hair, and it will obviously go on and on until we get a real life Gattaca, it's just the way things progress.

It's not too far out, either, like I said the real world is becoming more and more like 1984 so it's not impossible at all. Far from it, in fact, I think if we keep going on with all this screening it will be come inevitable.

Abu_Zarqawi, quit using the legislation argument. As I said, if we don't waste good time and public money on the research in the first place, it won't be possible to abort on grounds of autism, and pro-choice vs pro-life won't even be an issue.

its pretty cynical to assume that if research is left unchecked it'll automatically progress towards the worst possible outcome. you obviously dont have a lot of faith in humanity, which ive noticed is endemic on these boards.

if its ever even possible to screen for autism or homosexuality or some other harmless yet norm-defying condition yeah some people will probably get the proverbial coathanger and flush it out. but technology has always progressed in tandem with ethics, and most people living in economically sound progressive countries today would not abort an embryo for such frivolous reason. it'll take at least a few decades until such technology is financially viable and readily available to the masses, and by then those people will be even more numerous. not necessarily in places the US, south america, or the UK but countries like sweden, finland, canada and the netherlands. you know countries that have actually left the dark ages

also your main argument is referencing a mediocre movie haha

Well, YOU THINK?

Watch the news once in a while, I'd rather have faith in the flying spaghetti monster than so-called humanity.

Rational fear is better than irrational faith.

(That is SO going in my signature.)

My perception is dictated by nothing. If my perception was dictated by our culture, I would believe that Iraq was responsible for 9-11.

no of course the world isnt perfect but thats hardly an argument for unbridled misanthropy

please cynicism and lack of trust in your fellow man is the dominant trait of our culture and it has been like that since the 80s also your perception is just a by-product of the culture in which you live

BS, the dominant trait of our culture is blindly following the masses, which is what I do not do.

thats true for the early to middle 20th century, but for the last 30 years there's been a radical shift to a view of people as inherently selfish creatures that are constantly strategizing against each other and ultimately untrustworthy. this fits quite well with you and deloreans position that the worst possible outcome is the the most likely one

We are simply being rational.
