That was the Answer to YOUR question.

No accusation or name calling,

otiose explanandum.

It was rhetorical. Keep your smug emoticons for when you know what you're doing, like not welding the words otiose and explanandum together when you could have said 'pointless explanation'

You know explaining an answer to a rhetorical question sounds pointless.

I have no problem with these self-advocates, although it seems some people want to pidgeonhole them without qualifying it in any meaningful way, just stock phrases that are all flash and no substance, or tonnes of twisting weasel words.

Autism Speaks provide grants to universities from what I can see. If those universities have any integrity they wont get caught up in its desultory politics. But then again that may not occur.

But, Autism Speaks is giving tonnes of grant money away. That pretty much means thatt they can pull the strings. To put it frank that'll tie their hands to any ideology Autism Speaks wants.

Thank you for restating your opinion of what has occurred in this thread. I think the intention now though is to move on and have a more positive discussion (you may also wish to check the background of the "people" you refer to above, you may be unaware of their efforts)
I know what they are doing and saying on here and I judge on what I see. If there are any positive efforts then it is let down by their negative words on here.

But (and I might be showing my naivity here) money isn't everything, at this stage in the discussion I don't think anyone has mentioned an autism positive venture in need of financial donation, so perhaps we can come back to this when it's more appropriate to the topic.
I believe that you are quite mistaken. Without money, no charity would exist. Talking about what anyone does with money is very important. Money can corrupt easily

Marcus, I notice you feel you are NT yourself, I don't think we should necessarily exclude NTs or anyone else that is not Autistic, but would you mind explaining your strong interest in participating this topic?
Am I not allowed to have strong views on something that doesn't concern me? I don't like people who twist things around to put it bluntly

You are allowed to have strong views, and I never meant to imply that this shouldn't concern you, nor twist your words.

I am austistic myself however, and I am personally finding it very difficult to understand what you intend your contribution to be, given only what you have posted in this thread. I asked you for clarification to help me (and presumably others) to understand your views, and your intention by contributing here (I mean as in this thread).

I am sorry if I offended you
Ah don't be like that
You didn't try to suggest that you are blameless, so I know I can trust you.

As for this topic, you don't have to be affected by an outcome to be concerned by the means people achieve it. That's just compassion.

To put it bluntly, I distrust people who tar whole groups under the same brush, no matter how pleasant they appear when doing it, or even if they are part of said group. It stinks. And I think Autism Speaks, and their affiliates do that.

I mean you don't just produce a video on autism that is modelled on a PSA for poliomyeletis, a killer disease, and then become nothing but rays of sunshine. Now that is naïve.

^i agree with that. i am highly suspicious of Autism Speaks. for me, i guess i accept that they may have turned over a new leaf, but i warily keep an eye on them just in case.

OK, I've read the pages in this thread ( it took a stiff drink :drunken: and was still frustrating :wall: ).

@Tambourine-man: can we move on from that?

I don't know alot about Autism Speaks but I've been reading some of the stuff written in other threads and have followed a few links to websites.

The key issues that have been raised are, as I see them:

* Autism self-advocacy, is it possible?
* What are the benefits (if any) of supporting "Autism Speaks"?
* Are Autism Speaks willing to change in any meaningful way?

Simple:
  • Yes.
  • None.
  • No.
