I was referring to the sort of fantasies where we take over several US states, or declare full independence from another country.

Buying a farm and declaring a micronation is another matter, since it's actually quite possible. Ideally one with lots of outbuildings to convert into houses.

I think we should go somewhere quiet but near to large cities. Somewhere in the Vancouver area sounds nice.

No, Wales, because then I don't have to move far.

Wales seems to be the best place for a British Autist Micronation - cheap land, and probably abundant former sheep farms with lots of outbuildings to convert. Did I mention that that's where the founders of AFF live? Always good to have someone on the ground already.

Follow the semi/permanent retreat model and rent the houses out for maybe £2-300 per month. Live in them permanently or only part of the year, maybe making some available as sort of holiday homes. Sure, you'd need upwards of £250k to do this, which means either one wealthy backer or a lot of willing supporters. Or maybe just a few if they're willing to move.

If we could get 50-100 hectares, that would be very good. Enough for a significant measure of self sufficiency, allowing those incapable of holding down a regular job a means of income. The ideal property would be large, with scattered clusters of convertable outbuildings I should think. It'll cost though. More than I'm willing to pay, certainly; I've got other things to commit the bulk of my resources to.

Exactly. I say vancouver. Lots of land to spread through, lots of jobs nearby. A pretty tolerant atmosphere, or so I hear. I may be wrong. Also that and we could move north. I love cold places personally. But also it's mostly unoccupied. We wouldn't be in anyone's way if we chose to be.

Haha, this happened last time I was on a thread about starting up a new community - it split into a British and an American one. Doing both is best, given how spread out people are on forums.

Though it's tempting to go into hiding as well, with a hidden Autist Government, underground... 8)

Nah, we probably aren't good at underground in this situation. We are good at exposing unerground though I think.

Hopefully we'll be able to reboot Autfinity (AFF project). It's looking like North Wales would be the location. Unfortunately, there don't seem to be many for sale with buildings already there, so we'd probably have to build from scratch. Woodland seems to be cheaper, though, so if the forestry commision don't have a tift, there's cheap timber...

Personally I'd prefer to build a community near a developed area that's propserous. We can't make something from nothing with all the rules human societies run on.

By the way I am against invading or stealing territory from people who haven't attacked me. I'd rather that I not defile myself.

I would definitely be interested in something like this, mid-wales is extremely beautiful and I don't live very far from the Welsh border.

For some reason I had it in my head that Autfinity project was something to do with computer games or second-life or something like that :? I will check this out next time I go on AFF.

Land near prosperous cities is very, very expensive. They don't need to be prosperous, just good enough to provide the services we can't (hospitals, for example), and at such a distance we're not a hundred miles away from any assistance.

Well, Gareth and Amy live in Wales, so there's already people based there. I reckon Wales is the place anything would be.

We need jobs and money before we can make anything of rural land for a start. I want people in a business community.

Well, that's you, isn't it? Gotta be realistic, even if it is a crazy dream. A rural community can work fine, but it depends on the people living there. Jobs an money, yes, but one does not have to live on the doorstep of a city to find those. Bearing in mind it would be much more prone to splitting than a comparable Entie community, and those often fail quickly, so it would probably need a lot of land to spread out. All on a logical pattern, such as a circle, of course 8)

Maybe we can look at the depictions of Atlantis, and not just to scare people into thinking we're trying to rebuild it? A circle of houses, each with it's own plot of land... hmmm. Maybe a market place and agora somewhere in the center...?

Or we could take over a block of houses and build an underground street running through the cellars, with the cellars being turned into shops and cafes. Call it Horizont Ally...

I just think if we claim a spot of housing for ourselves and build outwards we can smarten up the place and make a self-sustaining community. Very good!

Well, I was kinda joking on that part... it would only be possible for Autists who can afford to buy a house already. Nice, but it wouldn't make much of a difference to most Autists. I'm still filing it away as a possibility for later, though... put an Autist Bar/Cafe on one end of the block to serve as an enterance to Horizont Ally, stick the Autist Ministry underground in another, larger property (old detached townhouse, perhaps?)...

"You're autistic, Harry". 8) I love parodies...
