You have to be kidding or trolling me 8O You pass as fact a "study" you have no proof of, then claim to have used random pictures from Google in which case you would have no way of verifying the actual age of the girls in the pictures.

I'm wasting my time here, obviously.

My apologies for derailing this thread, I should have known better and simply ignored such ridiculous claims.

That was the most stupid "rebuttal" I've ever seen. I think that if somebody posted a picture online and had the age of the girl in the description, that's pretty likely to be correct, and if some of them actually weren't correct then that would only be "noise".

I'm gonna make sure I NEVER explain anything more complex than a child can understand to you in the future. I don't want to waste my time on people that are not serious.

Right, because it's on the internet, it must be true. And if the 12-year-old was actually 16 that's only "noise".

So your incapacity of backing up your claims and keeping this exchange civil is proof that I'm stupid. It stands to reason.

Full mod mode.

A considerable portion of the content of this thread is unacceptable (and probably illustrates the points in the Slate article quite well). I wouldn't usually do this, but in case some people genuinely haven't picked up on these social rules, I need to spell them out.

Yes, some teenagers may be as "physically developed" as adults. Yes, that means attraction to them is, in some respects, different to attraction to children. But that doesn't make it any more acceptable.

This should be absolutely crystal clear - while sexual attraction inside your own head is one thing, it is not appropriate to pursue relationships with teenagers (unless, of course, you are a teenager pursuing other people your age). There is a considerable mental difference between a teenager and a young adult and that only grows as the age gap grows. It is inherently exploitative and cannot be justified through cultural norms.

Some cultures may set legal limits at slightly different ages. But changing the point at which something becomes a crime doesn't change the morality. Teenagers do not have the maturity to properly understand the implications of having sex with adults.

Using pedantry to excuse the sexual exploitation of some children is not acceptable, and not something the mod team are at all prepared to tolerate here. Consequently, thread locked.
