I'd really love to see a movie based on an AS person trying to make it in their chosen field - similar to The Pursuit of Happiness type movie, where they have to contend against workplace politics, their own AS related sensory problems (and that kind of thing), bullying and victimization, etc, but eventually come out on top.

Romantic comedies are all very well, but they're mainly based on making comedic entertainment out of AS quirks - I don't think they'd really hit to the heart of the autistic person's struggle for survival in a world engineered to function for a different brain type.

I'd also love to see an AS film with a female lead.

It isn't AS, nor is it probably catering to your desires, but Snow Cake has a female autistic woman as the main character. A guy gives her daughter a lift and ends up in a car accident, and he goes to see if she's ok. It isn't a romantic comedy, and it isn't a geeky science movie. It's just a little film showing a little bit about autism. I highly recommend it.

I like snowcake, I think some parts are quite funny, especially when he first stays at the woman's house and he goes into the bunkbed not knowing it's hers.

It looks funny. I doubt it'll be a hit, but it'll be something worth seeing.

A friend of mine saw this film at Sundance. Here's the general sentiments:

* It's accurate in the sense it presents Adam as having AS and all the associated characteristics, but it's apparently somewhat of an extreme, slightly over-the-top version of AS. His character shows little to no signs of learning or adaptation to an NT world, which is kind of surprising considering he's in his twenties. That being said, she also thinks Adam's character was obviously written in a way that conveys the highest level of dramatic tension, so it's not entirely unexpected.

* Rose Byrne will become the Aspie male's dream girl after this movie. She says this completely and honestly. :)

* Amy Irving does a great job as Rose's mother in the movie, but Peter Gallagher kind of plays the role as a more corrupted version of his character on The O.C.

She says Aspies are going to really like it. There's some moments we're all going to connect to in some way.

hope aspie movies become a fashion thing and they will make hundreds of movies about it, and all the nt's will want to be like their aspie idols from the movies and aspies will become "cool

Not a fan of "popular culture" through it has it's place, in the "old days" I used to work as a cycle courier (messenger) and we where seen as "parasites" may be they still are and I thought to myself I bet this life style becomes "cool" and I was right, it's gone from being underground to become part of "popular culture", think single speed bicycles. messenger bags , fashions etc etc. If your not in to cycling you have no idea what I'm talking about.

Nope, wouldn't work it would only be a passing fad, and you'll end up with superficial men pretending they where an aspie chasing up superficial women , so we would still miss out, that's cool who would want to end up with a vain partner?

I'm sure I'll have to wait for Netflix, but it looks interesting.

Off topic, just noticed my new rank: beejay the blue jay; it's alliterative, and it rhymes, too. That could be a cartoon on PBS.

We need a film noir style aspie movie with a typical solitary, alienated protagonist. Asperger's goes cool and gritty. :P

but seriously, shouldn't be the genre be a romance that is also horror?
