Jenny McCarthy seems to make money out of this game.

There is no link between vaccines and autism.

Advocating against vaccination, refusing it, and encouraging others to refuse it, puts the general population at increased risk of death.

More useless English.

'Increased risk of death' - we all have the same 'risk of death': inevitable. We all die.

Sorry, I realise I'm being pedantic, but it's one of those phrases that really irritates me.

How about "Increased risk of unnatural death?"

But death is a natural process...

'Increased risk of premature death'?
'Increased risk of death before one's natural time'?

I've really enjoyed reading some of the posts on this last page. Some balanced, interesting comments. I don't know if I agree with them all, but I don't have to. The discussion itself is good. Thank you to those who took the time.

Blueroses, please don't get me wrong. I'm not a Jenny fan, I'm more of a let's-be-civilized fan. things like:

"Can't view the genocidal b***h's video on my iPhone. What's she googling and claiming as her own now, the ill educated tart?"

are absolutely uncalled for. Since I've also seen several posts by Ishmael that claim that the vaccine/autism link is definitively refuted and calling people who aren't convinced of the paranoid, conspiracy theorists and other rude names, I'm not terribly thrilled with the tenor of his comments. No, I don't want Jenny to speak for me (I have Asperger's) or my grandson or cousin. I don't want Autism Speaks, or DAN or Ishmael to speak for me either. One of the truisms in autism is "If you've met one person with autism, you've met one person with autism." We're all very different and I am convinced that there are probably multiple triggers for autism. I'm not going to pretend that I know Ishmael and his needs better than he does. However, I think I'm perfectly justified in pointing out that his poisonous tone is antisocial and not acceptable by most people. I also feel justified in pointing out that he has presented exactly NO evidence that he has any training or background to be informing us with such conviction that he KNOWS the vaccine connection with autism is completely wrong. I have done a great deal of research on the subject and I haven't found it to be discredited yet. Since I DON'T believe that I personally know of a "vaccine" case of autism, I think I can be given credit for being fairly objective. To be called paranoid or whatever other dismissive term someone wants to come up with, whether by Ishmael or Offit or anyone else, is offensive in the extreme. Just because people with autism and Asperger's tend to have social difficulties it doesn't excuse willful disrespect.

what I meant was: I'd rather be the way I am than an NT with measles. not to mention meningitis. hell, I'd rather be the way I am than an NT with a sore throat and a runny nose! seriously.

I'd side with the Jenny McCarthy-haters front in this argument. what this woman is calling for is putting lives of real people in danger. it's not going to save a single kid though.

Well, I'm sorry to be the one to break it to you but.... you will. One day. Everyone dies; it's one thing we all have in common.

Another of your beliefs - one that I find merely quaint.

A belief I share with 99.99999999% of the population.... what would you suggest as an alternative? Living forever being made possible through science in the next 30 or 40 years? What if you were to get hit by a bus tomorrow and not fulfill that dream?

As a serious question, what would you state the alternative as being?

Personally, I wouldn't want to live forever. A good 60 or 70 years longer, yes, but not forever. As a wise man once said, 'death is life's greatest gift'.
