Does anyone get REALLY annoyed when someone tells you about something and Autistic child does and pawns it off as though this reflects everyone with autism? I remember hearing from my job coach about an Autistic child who caught a m***et (little person? Not sure how to conjugate the noun here) census worker and kept him in the closet, then called his mom up to say, "I caught the gnome! I caught the gnome!" On the surface, this seems kind of cute, actually (were it not for the fact that someone was actually trapped in a closet. But then she had to go ahead and say, "OOH! You should post this on WrongPlanet!" WTF? I mean, yes it's amusing, but I think this site is to be used to accentuate the positives of our disability, not our negatives--at least as far as news articles are concerned.

Thoughts?

I heard a guy tell this story and he swore it was someone who belonged to his wife's friend's church (or something). Now I'm wondering if it isn't urban myth.

So it's a census-taker now?

The times, they are a changin', and so are the urban legends: http://www.snopes.com/embarrass/mistaken/troll.asp
