I've been collecting movies and TV series that eligibly talk about aspergers. 90% of these show aspies as goofs!
Temple Grandin was said to be as asperger by many who read and saw the movie, and I get VERY ANGRY when people look at me and say: you are not an asperger at all!
Temple is an autistic right? I'm an asperger. I speak and walk like a common person, and NO ONE believes I'm aspie...
Well, I'm writing a script (my work), has anyone a piece of movie, or knows a movie that shows an orinal asperger to show me?!
Thanks

I think Sheldon from "The Big Bang Theory" portraits as stereotype Aspergers.

I don't understand what you mean by 'eligibly' (which isn't actually a word, but if it were, would mean something like 'able to qualify for')

Do you mean 'allegedly' (having been described as), or 'ostensibly' (appearing as, or pretending to be), either of which would make sense within that context?

@wallourdes: I think the one thing Big Bang does wrong with Sheldon is that they present him as though he were a CHILD with AS, and he is no child (of course, it IS a comedy). IMHO, both HOUSE and BONES are characters who behave more like grownups with AS.

I'm not sure Dr. Grandin ever said she had AS, unless I didn't see something, which is totally possible. She always said she had more classic HFA because her vocabulary was very limited as a small child. Just because she's autistic doesn't mean that all autistic/AS people act like her. Some are goofy and quirky, others are more reserved.

I'm sure many here would be in agreement when I say that you can speak and walk normal and still think a bit differently. I also think that alot of aspies are portrayed as goofs in the media because the media is entertainment. In that world caricatures get more attention and consequently high ratings.

Well thats probably why they don't say what he has. We're the ones slapping the Aspie label on him. But yes, Bones is much closer to the truth (although they don't label her either). House... is like the exact opposite of Aspie...

That's because we are goofs. We are doomed to dork-dom.

-For what it's worth, my neighbors told me to watch the "big bang theory" cause I reminded them of Sheldon.
-He's Aussie and his wife is Chinese, so it isn't just a cultural thing. I don't know if I see it myself though, but they said "We'd look at each other and say, 'that's nick!'"

Ya know Sheldon might be a goof, but he's also a Genius, so I wouldn't be too insulted.

The Indian character from the show Community is probably the closest portrayal of an aspie to myself. He's a budding filmmaker and relates to people through television and film conventions... much like I do. He's also rather extroverted like me.

I agree, he's an excellent portrayal.

I havent really seen too much fictionalization of aspies in the media. Im guessing its cause many of us do come off as goofy. We can be socially immature, say things that are off, and walk around with strange facial expressions on our face all day long. Its often unintentional but I learned how to play up the goofyness to some degree cause Id rather be seen as that vs. something more derogatory.

Well most shows avoid labeling their apsie-ish characters. It lets them do what they want with a character without having to be 100% true to the diagnosis to avoid angering the community.

Hmm I was actually thinking Amy from Big Bang Theory seemed like an Aspie. I have no idea what is wrong with Sheldon I honestly thought he was just weird to be honest.

In the 'social world' I think there's 'cool spectrum' based on how you act, what you say, how you talk, what you wear, what you do, how you look. Ect.

From Brad Pitt to the 'not so cool' Goths (Just an oppinion, and an example of extremes-not meant to be exact opposites)

Basically, we should look like a Calvin Klein model, act like a football player, have the personality of a rap star, plus have the high status along with some other qualities I don't really care enough to think about right now.

Not worded well but I make my point...Don't I?
