I'm watching Law & Order: Trial By Jury from Netflix. The episode is Day (Part 2). It concerns a rich widow's son who is a serial rapist and whose lawyer wants to use an insanity defense.

Here's a synopsis :arrow: Kibre works with Detectives Stabler and Benson to prosecute a mentally ill son of a rich powerful woman. The case keeps hitting dead ends thanks to the victim's mother and a defense attorney who will do anything to prove his client’s innocence.

I'll give you three guesses on what his diagnosis is: :roll:

just dismiss it as a hack job by an unimaginitive screenwriter.

Unfortunately, it's shows like that that educate the public about what adults with asperger's are like. I can't count how many times I've heard someone say "asperger's? you mean like on Boston Legal?" Shows like that just make life harder for all of us.

I hear 'Asperger's? Like that guy on "Big Bang Theory?" :roll: I just say "only funnier"

yea, you're right. but there is a lot of bad writing going on, on the american tube. a lot of misinformation [about lots of things] is being put out there in the name of entertainment. the most i can think of to do, is to simply not partake in anything from the sponsors of such entertainment, then write the sponsors a good old-fashioned letter of one's concerns, as well as the network in question. a weak action, but better than nothing.

There was one Aspie TV portrayal that I did like.

In Grey's Anatomy they had a guest appearance as an Aspie doctor who was a senior surgeon and very well respected.

Wow, because I thought that was an awful portrayal. Just goes to show how different we all are!

I agree. Also if enough people do voice their concerns when it comes to attacking misinformation such as this it might make a difference.

I've wondered why we don't yet have an anti-defamation league like so many other groups (Jews, gays, etc.) have to address these sorts of things. Is it just because our numbers are smaller, we don't have many lawyers among our ranks, and a movement toward awareness and/or civil rights for people on the spectrum is still so young?

I think Gabrielle on Shortland Street was good. The person who played her actually spoken to people with Asperger's so she knew how to portray her. Too bad she is no longer on the show.
