Happier Abroad post
I thought I'd share this post someone replied with to me on another forum on the Happier Abroad site. I'm not looking to move abroad, but have been intrigued lately with the reasons some people have to move abroad to find partners.
What do you think of this guy blaming Asperger's diagnoses on feminism? People on the Happier Abroad forum and the Love Shy forum are very anti-feminist, blaming feminism for their success or lack of it in relationships. I know myself that in finding a partner, feminism is not my problem, but social and communication skills are. He refers to Asperger's as a disease, but people on those forums do not know a lot about AS.
WEAK ANALYTICAL SKILLS IS A RECOGNIZED DISORDER. Coarsely, they would call those people "ret*ds". Nowadays they call them much nicer things, but the categorization is the same. How naive of someone to suggest that they don't exist. What world do they live in?
Disabilities that interfere with cognitive abilities are the easiest to recognize. As such, they were the first to be named and treated under the burgeoning psychiatric sciences. It's only with the greater diagnostic abilities science has developed over the last few decades that emotional disorders can be categorized and diagnosed. It has nothing to do with feminism, it's merely an example of how psychological science has become MORE sophisticated in the last century.
The best response to people like that is a good ol' rousing cry of "Correlation does not equal causation!" Just because the social and physical sciences both progressed at around the same time to a better understanding of psychology AND a popularization of feminism does not mean at all that the two things are the cause of one another.
Feminism is not a problem. I think that feminization does not help... for lack of a better word. It is something I read about in many (scientific) articles, so do not yell immediately discrimination.
In Dutch de word is 'vervrouwlijking'. It means that 'female characteristics' are more appreciated in the society of today, like communicative skills, empathy and such. Also there are more female teachers and managers. For autistic people that can be a problem, because they lack a lot of those skills. Since females learn to only accept minimal levels of communication skills, aspies have a challenge. But better communication is also supposed to be better for relationships, so maybe the lessened acceptance is better on the long run?
But to blame it on feminism is not really looking at the larger picture.

Yeah, you may as well say that the Internet was caused by feminism, or mobile phones were caused by feminism, as you are to say recognition of Asperger's was caused by feminism.
