There are those who say "The man is keeping me down." Is this statment true or false? Let's examine it. First, who is the man? I am going to put forth my definition of who the man is. I believe the man is a system. This system has individualized components to it. This system has rules in how you can deal in it and what you can do in it as well. This system is made up of individuals whom interact with each other in many different ways to accomplish different things. These individuals can form different groups as well. One of these ways include the people's interaction to the government and the government's interaction to the people. These interactions are based upon our values and perceptions of each other.

The government is made up of people. Reagan said that the government is the problem. I believe he is wrong. The people in government are individuals just like you and me. They have values and perceptions as well. They're just as fallable. I believe It is a sum of all of these interactions, relationships, individuals, groups, values, beliefs, and opinions which defines who "The Man" is. The man is not a person or a group. The man is all of us. The man includes me as well. If the man truly is keeping you down then you're keeping yourself down as well. We are all keeping ourselves down. This statement is a belief as well. This statement is a part of the man as well. Is the man keeping you down? He is if you let him and if you believe this statement to be absolutely true. We're all the problem and we all can be a part of the solution.

The man may be trying to keep me down but I will not let him. For me, the answer is no. The man is not keeping me down. I am going to challenge his values, perceptions, and beliefs. I am the man's gadfly. Since I'm a part of the man then I will be my own gadfly as well. I will challenge what I believe to be true as well. This is how I will be apart of the solution. I refuse to let the man keep me down. This is to those who say the man is keeping you down. Will you join me and do whatever it takes to challenge the man? Will you get educated even if you read on your own?
