Hi everyone! My name is Ashley, and I am a sophomore in college. I do not have Asperger's, nor do I know anyone with Aspergers--which is why I'm here. I need your help. I'm writing a paper about the discrimination of people with Asperger's syndrome. I am looking for anyone who would like to share with me a personal account of discrimination (yourself, your child, or even a witness's account). If you are interested, please reply here, or you can send me a private message. I can assure you that any information you divulge to me will be received in the strictest confidence, and I will not use any information in my paper unless I have permission from you to do so. I will not be using any names in my paper.

I posted under this discussion board because poor media representation is considered a form of discrimination, to a point!

If anyone has a problem with me being here for this purpose, please do not hesitate to let me know. I will leave if I am not wanted. I only wish to learn more about Asperger's syndrome and gather information for my paper. Any information would be helpful!!

Thanks so much for your time! Have a great day!
Ashley

Thank you for replying!

I'd like to know at what age you were diagnosed, if you had an IEP or a special education plan for accommodations in school, and if so, how difficult was it for you to receive those accommodations?

Were you bullied?

Those are just some starters; I'll think on it and post back with more as I think of them!

Thank you again for helping!

Since you were diagnosed with both PPD and Asperger's, does that mean that you have both disorders, or that the first diagnosis was incorrect, and you actually have Asperger's instead?

Goodness, that's terrible to hear of your wife hitting you! Glad she's not hurting you though.

If you don't mind me asking, what kinds of accommodations did you have in school that were effective for you? Were you in a special education program or mainstreamed?

Many people with Asperger's have trouble socially. You mentioned that you were married, that's great! Is it difficult for you to interact with others?

Had you experienced any discrimination in terms of obtaining jobs, etc.?

Thanks!

Ashley

aspergers is the right diagnoses back in the early 1980's not much was known about aspergers so ppd-nos was given to anyone with a autistic personality who was good with verbal language.i went to highly specialized schools run by massachusetts dept of social services, these schools did bot specialized in autism or aspergers they were generic schools for screw ups and juvenile delinquents a few kids were mentaly ret*d or schizophrenic but some of those kids may have later been dx like me,as i said i those days autism was rarely diagnosed.i have had a lot of problems with employers and i have been unemloyed for a year.now im trying to start a bussiness.

Good for you for trying to start your own business!

Pardon me asking, but does your wife have AS as well? I just wondered because you said neither of you were good with people. Congrats with how long you've been together!

I have to tell you, I feel that being sent to the alternative school filled with juvenile delinquents just because you were "different" is discriminatory. I'm glad you told me that; I could definitely use that information in my paper! Although the positive thing is that whatever that school did for you, it worked (right? I know you had said you received accommodations).

Pardon me asking (again), but what caused the end of your previous employment? Was it due to your AS? Did you voluntarily resign or were you forced to resign?

april doesnt have as,maybe bi polar she very moody.i had always had some problems at the taxi company they were a ruthless bunch in general.i dont know if i was tehnicaly discriminated against, one of the drivers pulled a knife on a customer on new years eve 2010 and many other incidents of mistreatment of many people.i think the taxi company is just sick and twisted in general.as far as my schools i have little regret the institutions didt have much freedom but for the most part i liked the schools better than public school.im still friends with old staff members from my dorm 20 years ago and my memories are happy from that times.

Just wanted to give you a quick update! I'm nearing the due date for my paper, so I've been working hard on condensing all of your stories and piecing them together for my paper!

I'm trying to find a way to post my paper once it is complete so you all can read it and see how I've used your stories.

I will try to keep you updated as I'm working, and as always, I extend my deepest thanks to you for helping!!

Ashley

Hello again everyone!

I just wanted to let you all know that the paper will be available for you all to view until a week from Friday (May 13th). On the 13th, I will be closing all public access to my paper, and terminate my membership to this website. Please feel free to post any comments you might have until then!!

I wanted to thank you all again for your help. My paper would not have been half of what it is without you all. I have learned so much from each and every one of you, and that is information I will carry with me forever!! You certainly did not have to share your stories with me, but some of you did, and I am extremely grateful for you.

This will probably be my last post on this site, except to reply to any comments left regarding my paper. Thank you all again, once more. I wish everyone here the best of luck in anything they choose to do!!

Ashley
