I read it and enjoyed it. It says in the book that Kurt Schilling has ADHD and it does cross Schonda Schilling's mind that maybe there is a genetic link between the two, that maybe Kurt's ADHD is in some way related to their son's AS.

It's nice to read a parental memoir that doesn't portray it as the end of the world. The parental agonzing is just about feeling guilty for punishing him for things he couldn't control but they thought he could before the diagnosis. They don't go on an anti-vaccine rampage. Perhaps because Kurt Schilling's ADHD made them realize it's genetic.

I’ve not read The Best Kind of Different and I don’t doubt it’s a very good book that will help a lot of parents, but I feel that in all the great published literature that’s out there about ASD—and in all the public awareness campaigns—there’s too much focus on children with autism and not enough on adults. Not only the adults these children will become, but adults who have been living with the condition long before it became “popular.” The main negative result is that autism is thought of as a childhood condition when nothing could be further from the truth.
