In a bizarre move, british athlete Steve Cram wants to be an ambassador for poverty pimps ATOS origin.

I've seen this on Indymedia.

Not claiming any state benefits, I've no experience of Atos Healthcare's assessments, but a lot of people do seem to have problems with their understanding of mental health issues. I do have experience of working with Atos Origin as IT consultants and was not very impressed. My client subsequently sacked them.

Nor am I impressed with all the personal data Cram's company wants to hold on behalf of the users of his ID tags.

Personally I think we should stop going on about work and talk about activity instead. Not everyone can go into full time employment, but I bet there are people who would benefit by being helped to access education, recreational activities and maybe some level of employment, and the benefits and social care systems ought to be encouraging people to maximise their potential. Despite tabloid rhetoric, I'm sure it's no fun being sat at home on ESA, but putting people onto JSA and telling them to 'get a job' isn't helping anyone.

ATOS is a company that seeks to make medical judgements, whilst ignoring medical evidence from patient's own doctors or impartial parties. They have financial incentives to meet a set quota for assigning claimants as 'fit to work' & being rewarded based on the 'savings' they make.

Shame on them, shame on the shabby government officials who appointed them (as it's a symptom of the whole system, ATOS just being the permitted consequence) & shame on Mr Cram if he's agreed to be their appointed celebrity frontman. Looks like he's getting some flak on fb, some are complaining that their comments have been removed from the page. How appropriate - don't deal with injustice, just stop people from having their voices heard.
