Who here thinks Abed is an Aspie, and what do you think of the way he is represented? I personally think he is portrayed to be an Aspie, with issues with eye contact, prolonged staring, fascination to the point of living television and movies, and monotone speech. Nearly everyone I know says he is their favorite character on the show. Whenever someone picks on him and he doesn't seem to get it, they end up looking like an ass, and Abed looks like the most loyal person you'll ever see. I think he is an example of positive bias in the media.

Here is one where they laugh at how they say Asperger's.

He's been discussed here before. I think his character is dead-on and I even know some people with Asperger's who area lot like him.

I've never heard of that show before. I'm watching the clip ci posted right now, but I think it's dumb.

I thought it was kind of funny but people can be rude with the sound of the word as well. Such as what someone did to me once which was motion picking their butt and wiping their nose. Still yet I find the sound of the word funny.

Well, we all have personal preferences, but why not watch a full episode before deciding? They actually make Abed, the Aspie, the most loyal, friendly, and reliable character on the show. Whenever somebody is mean to him, they look like the a**hole, and he is still so loyal and friendly.

It is DVD only. I do not rent DVD's because I forget about them. That is why I watch online only.

I think so, and I think he's a great character.

In one episode of the second season, after pointing out that they were about to enter "bottle episode" circumstances (which is a term used to mean minimal set, costume, and actor budgets to distribute the saved money to other episodes; it means that the focus is more on a personal, emotional plot and focuses a lot on character reactions... and it was, in fact, the season's bottle episode) tried to make a quick escape and, when he got stuck in it anyway, complained about having to deal with complex social issues and minute facial expressions he didn't understand. Up until that episode I wasn't sure, but it seems pretty clear from that that he does have Asperger's, or something very, very similar.

I discovered Community around the same time that I was diagnosed, and I've got to say it's been a pleasure. If nothing else, I can see a character I'm proud to have some association with... especially since my only exposure to Asperger's in television before that was in Parenthood, which just made me angry.
