Hello!
I went to a financial adviser today and asked about Long Term (nursing home) care insurance, just to preserve my assets from my son.

The adviser said that Asperger's is considered a "cognitive impairment" by all insurance companies and therefore all people with Asperger's are not eligible.

This is so stupid and unfair.

Any ideas.

I didn't know that, but it could explain why my sons were dropped off of our insurance every month from the time they were diagnosed.

Have you tried applying for the Katie Beckett waiver? It is not dependent on income.

Cognitive function is by definition intact in someone with Asperger's.

Autism is considered a cognitive disorder because it doesn't fit into other categories in every case. They don't have a subsection for neurological disorders, so it goes into cognitive.

Insurance companies: In the business of screwing their customers since whatever year they were created.

Seriously Insurance is the biggest scam in this country. I mean if I could count the number of times I've heard of someone getting in a car wreck their insurance should have covered but the insurance company finds some loophole as to why they don't have to cover it...I'd probably have more money than I have now. And don't get me started on Health Insurance or I'll be ranting all day....but I agree it is screwed up.
