I found this from an article! http://tinyurl.com/o4ztb5y
"Human rights theories, including social contract, utilitarianism, citizenship, and those based on freedom, 5 have all been criticized by disability scholars for excluding certain individuals based on a set of abilities required to participate in some activity (i.e. governance) or maintain a certain level of autonomy. "
Your opinions?
Some really interesting content in that discourse, especially the consideration of "personhood" and the exclusionary use of that as applied to ASD people.
Though she gives a passing glance to it toward the end, what was missing for me from this article was the huge issue of structural economic disadvantage, ASD and human rights. The way that job interviews for example is set up to suit the communication styles of NTs and only NTs, the hidden "gatekeeping" that functions to keep the different out of the work force. But that's a particular bugbear of mine.
Thanks for posting it.
