National Autistic Society (UK autism charity) have released preliminary information about the coming year's autism convention, or AutismCon; this is a public meeting modeled on cosplay / sci-fi conventions but is about autism, rather than Batman or Star Wars.

I attended the first one and while there were the expected teething problems for a "first of its kind", I felt it was worth going overall and highly recommended.

Early details for this year: http://tinyurl.com/AutismCon2016

It's not the first of it's kind. Autscape has been going since 2005!

Some argue that Autcon is a way for the NAS to co-opt for itself events that Autistic people have already done for themselves so it ends up being a weak diluted version of the original. The NAS have a history of doing this.

Still, we autistics can always counter co-opt it for ourselves!
