im not against funtioning labels  and they keep crying 'function labels hurt people' kind of junk at us... low-function people deserve the same rights as anyone else   and can also became famous too

'they' people in half-hearted (both-good both-not-so-good) ND movement thinking all autistic can live normalish lives (like bitterautistic on tumblr)

I avoid functioning labels and just use the term "autistic" or "classic autism" (when I am asked if I am an Aspie) for the same reason I identify as "queer" instead of specifying more closely. I think that the functioning label helps people to categorize us and create distinctions in allistic awareness that do not serve any of us. They should wonder what kind of autistic (or what kind of queer) I am. If they want to bring scorn, hostility or judgment to anyone in the communities to which I belong, they should bring it to me too. If they actually want clarification, I can take that opportunity to educate about why functioning labels are not that useful, what autism is, etc.
