I feel so sad for those people. Parents and kids, and I can certainly relate.
The saddest thing of all is that what makes it so awful (not all the issues, but a sizable portion-- and without that sizable portion, it would be so much better) isn't autism at all-- it's the way mental health care chooses to treat it and the way society chooses to view it.
If therapy weren't a full-time job and a segregated activity, there would be time for a get-together and a bagel.
If autistic kids (and their parents) weren't judged so harshly, learning could take place in a social setting (instead of an isolated one).

I agree, with you, about the segregation of therapy part. On My twitter (@Pieplup) I talked about this If I find it I'll show you. You can find it if you want. Though I agree that it is not only part of the judgement, but how people react to it.
