Autism Not A Barrier To 16-Year-Old Trinity Freshman

Congratulations to Ben.

Despite the positive outcome this demonstrates how far we have to go in a couple of ways.

Dispite bieng eminitly qualified Ben was rejected by 6 of the 10 colleges he applied for.

I still read all the time posts from parents when articles showing an autistic having some sort of success in saying well what about my kid who will never be able to read or function?. It should be noted that Ben was diagnosed with severe autism at age 2. Some autistics will never be functional and most will not be smart enough to be accepted in colleges at age 16, but to harp on that is missing the point, which is so many parents are creating the very bleak outcomes for thier kids that they fear due to thier attitude.

Yes, congratulations. It pains me that there is such a resistance to celebrating spectrum successes. Lately on WP there seems to be more of an antagonistic attitude about this, though I know that these things tend to go in cycles here.
