Protest for parents of autistic children after Donella Knox sentencing

Quote:
A woman sent to prison for killing her daughter has inspired a protest calling for better support for parents of autistic children.

Donella Knox was sentenced to four years in jail for the murder of her 20-year-old daughter Ruby on May 16 last year.

Knox's close friend Sharna Butcher is organising a protest to raise awareness of the challenges Knox faced as Ruby's sole caregiver.

"I know of parents in a similar situation all over New Zealand, who want to harm themselves and their children because they've had enough," Butcher said.

I get it, I am all in that should more services, it is rough on the parents when there are not enough services, IT IS ROUGH ON THE AUTISTIC PERSON ALSO. IT IS EVEN ROUGHER GETTING MURDERED.

Quote:
The only reason she's in prison today is because the system failed her. If she'd had enough support, Ruby would still be alive. It hurts me deeply that she's in there."

Not enough support is at most a contributing factor to Ruby's death. The direct cause of Ruby's death is the decision and action taken by her mother. That is the crime she was sentenced for. In at most four years Donella will get the opportunity to resume her life and opportunity taken away from Ruby.

Rest in Peace Ruby Knox.

Yes it is very important to understand why some parents would want to harm their autistic children. When you understand why it happens, you then take the next step about how to prevent more from being harmed because just tossing parents behind bars for hurting their autistic children isn't going to stop more from being killed. That is like punishing a child for their behavior without looking at the cause behind it when in fact it was anxiety causing it so what do you do about the behavior. You help the kid with their anxiety so there is no more behavior just like how you offer more support to parents of autistic children so there is no more deaths. This is something I had learned from my mother but apparently the rest of the world doesn't know this so some people are ahead.
