Clonakilty: Autism-friendly town - Reaching out
Quote:
the people of Clonakilty,in West Cork, have come together to make their town autism-friendly.
Scully’s SuperValu is leading the effort, in partnership with the autism charity, AsIam, but the whole population of the town is also on board.
Up to now, it has been the person with autism who has had to adapt to society, and often did so anxiously.
The people of Clonakilty are showing that it can work better the other way round, with shops, offices, pubs, restaurants and, above all, people adapting to the needs of those with autism.

A town to steer clear of. You can't expect the world to adapt to you; that's the utmost expression of entitlement. It's your job to do your best to cope with the world as it is and perish if it's still not good enough.

Bolivar becomes second ‘Autism Friendly City’ in Missouri
Quote:
Bolivar in southwest Missouri has proclaimed itself as an “Autism Friendly City”. The designation means the city commits to training its employees, businesses, churches, schools, and daycares about autism.
To become autism-friendly you have to know what autism is and what it means,” says Obrey. “If you are going to have to travel to a sensory-friendly event and you have to travel a half an hour there and then a half an hour back. Families shouldn’t have to leave their hometown to feel welcome.”
