There is a memoir called To Siri with Love that I have recently learned about. (I do not actually read these books, though.) In it, a mother of an autistic son writes about her son. However, the book was actually written in a way that autistic adults label as extremely ableist and an invasion of the son's privacy. The mother purposefully uses language and "humor" that isn't meant to be understood by autistic people, with her claiming that the book was not meant for an autistic audience.

The worst part? The mother suggests that she will get her son involuntarily sterilized when he turns 18. Forced sterilization of an autistic person will have the same effect as eugenics on the autistic minority as a whole: autistic people will no longer be born. The author of the book was supposedly callous and uncaring towards autistic critics and seems to be very much an "autism mom."

What are your opinions on this?

Old Wrong Planet thread on the book
My opinion is subjecting her son to involuntary sterilization and telling the world about beside being a hideous violation of privacy is about is as emasculating a thing one can do to a guy.

I read a Reader's Digest article about this book. I found this woman horrible in all respects.
