Have there been enough (apparent) would-be mass shooters who were areested before they could do it that we can call that a (sub-) grouping, a category/genre, in its own right? Here's one . And the fact that they quote someone from a developmental disabilities center's opinion of him, well, I think that's newspaper-style " saying it between the lines "/politeness .

There is no mention of Autism or Aspergers in the linked article.

Even if the article has no direct mention of autism or aspergers, it still illustrates the bias problem that the large oligopoly of newspapers and media tends to have. There is actually bias against many categories of people.

So if you mean by "one of us" people with developmental disabilities you are likely right. If you mean by one of us Autistic maybe.

We can probably rule out those developmental disorders caused by intellectual disability.

I do not see the point of creating anxiety until unless there is a good reason to. Starting with Adam Lanza there have been a number of diagnosed Autistic mass shooters and incel terrorists hurting our reputation without including someone who might be autistic. If this creep is autistic it is likely we will find out through the legal process as his defense lawyers will likely use his autism to try and reduce his punishment.
