Don Imus who died a few days ago was primarily a radio personality. He was very versatile and controversial having success as a shock jock, sports commentator and political commentator.
The Misinformants: Prominent Voices in the Anti-Vaccine Crusade

Quote:
Don Imus
“As everybody on the planet knows, thimerosal is a neurotoxin. Injecting it at the levels they do and used to do, and still do, by the way, into the bloodstreams of infants must do something.”

His wife Dierdre has been very active in this area.

My dad was a fan of Imus. He’d always defend him whenever he’d say something especially stupid.

I’m not that surprised that he was anti-vaccine.

I met Imus once (Yes, I actually did!) It was in the 1980s. I was in the Village. He was sitting in some booth in a coffee shop. He looked old even back then.

He was, totally, an entitled a**hole. I think I shook his hand or something. He berated everybody around him whom he knew well.

I’d get annoyed whenever I’d wake up to the sound of that voice. I’m getting irritated now. LOL

Why was he able to consistently get away with so much? Most people aren’t that likely.

Voicing controversial opinions and not caring what critics think. He more than likely had Aspergers Syndrome. He was passionate, obsessive and opinionated about Anti Vaxx.

He was just a jerkoff, to me.

But he's gone....and I hope he isn't feeling bad in whatever world he is in.

I couldn’t stand it when my dad would stick up for him.

He was just a "shock jock"----maybe he pioneered the "genre."

He was an idiot who made racist and misogynist comments throughout his career.

He did some charity work, though, so I guess he wasn’t all bad unless he was doing it as a career move.

A shock jock says anything to create controversy, stir things up and gets attention. A shock jock is a professional troll and is paid to be a troll.

Yep, that sounds about right.

Isn't this the same guy who would call McDonald's and ask for an order to go for 1,000 hamburgers? My dad had a tape of someone with a similar name making prank calls.

I don't think I would have liked Don Imus or appreciated any of his views. That being said I find it sad he has died and just one year after his last show ended. It just feels chilling to me in a sense.

He was advanced in age.

I met him once in the 1980s. He was old even then.

I’m pro “vaxx.”

Some people get used to a constant showering of praise and they lose touch with reality. I've met celebrities and politicians that thought they were royalty. It can go the other way, too. I met Jeff Sessions at a spaghetti appreciation lunch (long story), and he was surprisingly personable and very likeable. I remember no one really wanted to talk to him as he was making the rounds, and I was dreading saying hi because I dislike both handshakes and small talk. When he got to me I didn't know what to say so I just said "Hi, we are both named Jeff," and he laughed and then offered me a high five. We then talked about non-political stuff for 20 minutes.
