Since 2013 Asperger is no more official diagnosis only ASD is I wonder how many feel uncomfortable about it Asperger was not so stigmatizing like ASD is?

I wonder how you think about it?

My daughter got a diagnosis of "Asperger's Syndrome" in 2018 - here the standard is ICD not DSM and ICD-10 still had it.

I used ASD, autism, and aspie to describe myself. Personally, I am not that attached to Asperger's as a label, especially given the history of the man.

I am absolutely fine with referring to myself or others referring to me as Autistic.

I think for the lay person, the current breadth of the autism spectrum can be confusing.
A person with Asperger-type autism can seen so different to someone with severe classic autism, so it makes it harder for people to understand that these are all variants of the same umbrella condition.
But I'm OK with that, it just requires educating people.

Since I have always felt Aspergers was a subcategory of Autism when I was diagnosed I had no problem identifying as either. Since Hans Asperger was revealed to have been complicit in Nazi eugenics I do not identify as Aspie anymore. I am not and will never cancel Aspergers. That label was extremely helpful to me. That can’t be changed. The difference now is that label is a major part of my HISTORY.

My file says both, but that's because I was originally diagnosed in the days when it was called Asperger Syndrome. When I had to reaffirm the diagnosis with old paperwork, I remember asking specifically about this little difference.

I personally stick with the "autistic" label now. However, there's no way I'd give someone flak for using the old term.

And if anyone gives me issues for not being triggered enough about Hans himself? What I have to say to that is, "The guy was so blinded by his hate that he couldn't fully explore our good qualities. Screaming about the past would make me the same demon he was."

Sometimes i throw around the term ASD, just to watch the clueless look on their faces.

Yes; it can be fun to use arcane terminology and then explain what you're referring to!

Since both Aspergers and Autism start with an A it makes it easier. I mostly use the term Aspergers as that was my initial diagnosis and it's probably still an official diagnosis in my country.

I have no concerns about it.

But I know those who do; ranging from status quos and stigmas...
From label status quo before and after a certain WW2 party is mentioned and rewritten in narrative, to just confusion between categories of the condition, to the hassles of re-diagnosis...

... Still not my story to tell.

I do wonder how many people with undiagnosed Asperger's won't be able to as easily learn about their condition when doing personal research. As soon as they see the word "autism," they'll disregard it, because like many unaware of the spectrum, autism still means classically autistic.

I think having categories within the spectrum is helpful, and Asperger's is still a relevant term.
